TLDR : Answer Summary
When deciding whether to buy or rent a car in Thailand, it's essential to consider your length of stay and personal preferences. If you're planning a longer stay, purchasing a vehicle may be more economical. Rental options can vary significantly; for example, renting a small car for a minimum of six months can cost around £350 per month. Renting directly from local agencies like Chic offers competitive rates compared to international brands. Additionally, ensure you understand your payment options and insurance coverage when renting.

We rented through hertz they have been good. We were able to pick up in Bangkok and drop off in chiang mai with no additional cost. They also have no excess insurance. We checked the price with a few local companies as well and found hertz price was similar.

Chic rental at the airport is superb - way cheaper than the big international brands, young cars and great service

All depends on what you want and how long you'll be here. If you're planning living here you're better buying but there is a big range
