What should I do if my DTV application isn't approved before I arrive in Thailand?

Submitted my DTV application middle of March 2025. I put down an early june arrival date , but my plans have changed and now flying to BKK on the 19th of may and not early June.

What happens if i fly to thailand and my application still isn't approved , then gets approved once i am already in thailand ? I presume I come in on a VOA?

I am also presuming i will have to leave the country and come back in on the DTV?

I called the embassy in australia 🇦🇺 2 times now and they are aware of my new travel date. Lady said she will see what she can do!

Any advice would be appreciated, thanks in advance. Just want to make sure i am following the process. I have no doubt i am not the 1st person to do this! 🙏 ❤️ 🇹🇭

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is facing a situation where their DTV application is pending approval while they plan to arrive in Thailand earlier than initially stated. They are concerned about entering Thailand without their visa approval and whether they should enter on a Visa Exemption instead of a VOA (Visa On Arrival). They have called the embassy for clarification. Feedback from commenters indicates that entering on a Visa Exemption is advisable, as it offers a longer stay than a VOA. If the DTV is approved during their stay, the user will need to leave and re-enter the country to activate the visa.

I applied early April via Canberra with early June arrival. Still waiting for approval.

You wouldn't come in on a VOA which you have to buy and is usually only good for 14 days and can't be extended, you would come in visa exempt which is good for 60 days and can be extended by a further 30 days. If your DTV is issued while you are in Thailand you have to leave and re-enter to enable it. Interested to hear what the consulate said about this as normally you have to remain in the country you apply from until the process completes

Anonymous participant did you ask the question? As I read what the response you got was "she'll see what she can do to help ", not "don't worry about it you can just go anyway"
