Did I do something wrong entering Thailand visa-exempt as a Dutch citizen?

I was almost denied entry into Thailand. I am a Dutch passport holder and arrived visa-exempt from Amsterdam a few days ago. This was my first visit since I left in March of this year.

The immigration officer interrogated me. She noted that I had visited Thailand many times, always visa-exempt and getting a 30-day extension. She also told me it’s better to apply for a tourist visa next time. . I’ve always complied with the letter of the law, and never overstayed. In the end, she noted down lots of information into the computer, and asked to see my return flight. I was allowed in. Phew. I asked her if I had done something wrong but she said no, but added that I could be rejected the next time I arrive visa-exempt, depending on the officer.

Now on to my question: Did I do something wrong? I thought the Thai government specifically allowed certain countries to enter visa-exempt to attract tourist and make it hassle-free. Any thoughts are welcome. I don’t wanna risk doing anything bad.

Thailand very much appreciates tourists. “Why do you stay in Thailand for so long?” Is a legitimate question for tourists.

AND as the OP has entered Thailand, I will close comment.

We wish him well with staying in Thailand.

I had a similar experience my second time here Dec 2019. Officer told me next time I would need a visa. This last time Sept 2022 there was def some not friendly vibes. All visa exempt entries, and extensions (3). It seems there is some type of small print that discourages a certain amount of exempt entries or a culture thought I am missing.

Thank you for your report.

Thankfully you were allowed to enter Thailand this time.

The Thai Immigration Officer saw your recent history of living in Thailand during COVID-19 using visa exempt entry with extensions...and wondered "Why you stay in Thailand so long?"

has posted on this subject of those who have stayed in Thailand during COVID-19 ... Suggest you read it.

Lucky for you, you are now in Thailand and can get a 30 day extension of stay at local Thai immigration office for 1900 Thai baht.

AND as Most Land BORDERS are OPEN...(NOT MYANMAR)...You can do TWO LAND BORDER BOUNCE entries into Thailand each calendar year.

The 45 days stamp ENDS March 31, 2023. Time your border bounce and choose the border crossing carefully.

And DO NOT FLY INTO THAILAND...As you're likely to be denied entry. Use Land BORDER entry ONLY.
