Hey All. I think I’m in a jam. I booked a flight for the 15th of sept for 3 months with my 2 kids. I was hoping to get the 60 day entry and then extend for 30 days. Now that they’ve changed entry rules Im not sure what to do. I talked to the Thai embassy and they said the visas are now taking up to 25 business days so I won’t have time to get that completed before we leave. Is my only option to leave Thailand for a few days and come back? I was hoping not to do that as it’s our first big trip. Anyways Thanks all for your help.
Answer summary
The user is concerned about the inability to secure a 60-day visa for their upcoming trip to Thailand with their children due to new entry and visa regulations. They previously planned to enter Thailand on September 15 for three months but have now been informed that visas may take up to 25 business days to process. The community suggests several options, including changing flights to arrive earlier, obtaining a 30-day visa on arrival, considering extension options, or temporarily leaving Thailand to re-enter and secure additional days. There are concerns about airline policies regarding proof of onward travel and the potential need for an extended stay.

All these people who still made bookings knew this was coming, You should have gotten visas so as the Thais say SOM NAM NA !
I would still apply for a 60 day E-visa you will probabally get it..If not .. 30 days on entry extension of visa 30 days then nip over to Laos for 7-10 days and come back in.. One overland visa would be no problem.
I would apply for a multi entry tourist visa. I applied for one in the UK last week and it took just 24 hours from application to having the visa by email. A METV allows you 60 days and I think you can apply for a 30 days extension for 1,900 baht. Hope this helps.
My worry about extending for 30 days at immigration is that some airlines don’t accept this when you are checking in for your flight to Thailand A friend had a problem with Lufthansa They refused to let him board He had to get a friend in BKK to book a flight out 30 days after he arrived in Thailand Has anybody else had this problem?
I highly doubt that it takes 25 business days for a tourist visa. It's usually done in a few days. Definitely try to get the the tourist visa asap and you should be okay. Of course another option would be to arrive in Thailand a couple of days earlier - so that the 60 days visa exempt would still apply.
I’ve had a look and I think from 15 Sep you’ll get a 30 day exemption stamp which you can extend by 30 days. The reentry wasn’t clear but it seems you can leave and the enter for another 30 days. I’d go for the 30 on arrival a 30 day extension and they do a couple of days in a neighboring country. Will cost a bit more but also more of an adventure for your kids.
It was announced as official today. The change, but it won't take effect far too weeks, which unfortunately means the day you're flying in, it would be changed my only suggestion would be to try and bring your flight a few days sooner
I believe you will still get sixty days until the official change.Date 14th /15th
Everyone saying the 15th is wrong. Day 1 is when it was first published 15 days from the 31st with 31st being day 1 is the 14th. It comes into effect on thr 14th not 15th.
Richard Van Vorst there's no maybe about it. It's already been posted in the royal gazette. It's confirmed! It has changed and comes into effect on 15th September.
15th goes back to 30 days but get your 30 day free then extend for 30 more. Ot get 60 day tourist visa in your own country and you can extend that to give you 90day
Martyn Rollinson he needs to show an outward bound ticket for 30 days. thats his length of stay stamped in his PP. he can extend 30 days in thailand giving him 60 days. then he must leave thailand.
Five calendar weeks to get a simple tourist visa is absurd. And presumably this will get worse as the 30 day restriction kicks in generating a surge in demand for visas going into high season. Goodbye Thailand, Good Morning Vietnam!
Arthur Williams what is a non O family visa? There are a non- O retirement visa and a non O marriage visa. There's nothing called a" non-O family visa".
It's kind of strange that you're coming in supposedly for 3 months with your kids don't they go to school in any event if you reschedule your flight you must get here before the 15th remember there may be a days difference depending on where you're coming from
Brendon Bradley may I suggest spending a week in a neighbouring country. Flights are not expensive and a trip to Laos would show your children the difference in the way Buddhism is practiced in different countries and how a neighbouring country has similarities but also are different. Try and make something frustrating fun and educational for your children. The morning alms in Luang Prabang is extraordinary.
Thanks, that’s kind of where my thinking is at the moment too. I will come for 30 days extend that for another 30 leave for a week on on the 60 day and come back for the final 30 or so days.
You should be ok, but tight, probably wk ok with the time difference maybe. If you only get 30 day at arrival, ,extent for another 30 at immigration, then do a border cross in & out & get another 30, that should cover yr 90 days. Good luck
You might consider a two day slow boat down the Mekong, it requires entering Laos, and then you can either fly back to Bangkok from Luang Prabang, or enjoy the former Royal capital of Laos and it’s beautiful mountain environs and then take the high speed train down to Vientiane, the capital. There is a Thai embassy in Vientiane where you can apply for a tourist visa, it takes two days, but I think you need to make an appointment ahead of time. Northern Laos is one of the lst great wildernesses on the planet, it’s an amazing two days of slow river time. kids need to learn that they can’t always be entertained by technology and screens. The slow boat is reality sliding by in real time, in a place where time has all but forgotten.
Jonathan Seraphim Yeah I do understand, and we've done it. They loved waving and saying hello to the kids living and swimming along the shore. But they're teenagers now. Yeah they will get off devices to trek, swim, museums temples etc but probably not for spending ages on a slow boat. For sure should be done once though for any kids travelling SE Asia
Jonathan Seraphim that is a very good idea. Laos is beautiful andvyou can make a rdv in advance ( is the rdv date done online these days ?)visit Luang Prabang and Vientian while waiting. Then re enter Thailand with a new visa. Repecting ALL the rules, exit ticket from thailand, équivalent 20 000 Baht + for kids in CASH euro $ or £ and the obligatory
TDAC. Still gives you more than enough time to visit all of Thailand.
The point is they’re pissing these people off a friend of mine who lives and how him says over half of the expert he used to go there every freaking year or now going to Vietnam
Charlie Brown they have not changed the rules. They only brought in 60day as a temporary idea to help boost tourism after covd. Before that the rule was only 30day for years.
Your first problem if you don’t sort this out is your airline, they will want to see you are compliant with the current regulations before letting you board.
Lot of bad comments. For starters even if the 60 day entry is in place, you cannot add a 30 day extension to the date for you exit. Ticket exiting has to be in the first 60 days. Next, the visa has been reduced to 30 days. Starting September 15. You need to look at some scheduling changes.
Ralph Tyson yes i saw his post. He doesnt day whete hes from, or if hevhas actually already applied. I sayvthat because for example, Paris embassy says possible 4 weeks wait ! Incredible bad service. I checked myself. Also thete are agencies that sometimes (!!) Can get the paperwork through faster .At a cost of course.
He can still travel without and have a gréât trip to a neighbour country and apply for a 60 day tourist visa there.
Richard Van Vorst maybe you need to ask someone who cares for you. The Changes WILL take place 14th September at midnight. You arrived already so you got 60 days. Please stop commenting wrong information.
I was due to fly on the same day, the 15th.. for 2 months.. I moved my flight forward to the 13th now arriving on the 14th... is that an option for you?
เดแคลน คอนนอลลี่ I believe the rule is that anything published in the gazette becomes official rule *but* those changes don't take effect until 15 days after being published
Kenneth Owens what if they don't let you on the plane for the outbound flight.. You have no visa covering your whole stay. The airlines rules say you shouldn't board.
ChattyAvocado3239 i went to the immigration office in bangkok, try to get there early its pretty busy. I was in an out in less then an hour though. If its your first time applying for extension it'll get approved straight away. (Usually)
