Can I apply for a second Single Entry Visa (SEV) for my second stay in Thailand after returning from Malaysia?

Hi, I'm after a bit of advice please. My husband and I are coming to thailand mid November, going to Kuala Lumpar for 5 days after a 54 day stay, then returning to Thailand for 54 days before going home to UK. Originally we had hoped to get two 60 day free visas but we were obviously watching the situation very carefully. We now intend to get a SEV for our first stay (already applied for) and then a 30 day free plus 30 day extension for our second stay.

My question really is, can we apply for a second SEV for our second stay as long as we apply before we leave the UK?

In other words could we use our first SEV for first stay, use within 90 days leave before 60 days. Then use a second SEV for the second part.

Before you all say I should/could have got a MEV I am aware of that but the expense and documentation put me off.

Thanks in advance for any advice you can give me.
Answer summary
The user initially planned to use two Single Entry Visas (SEV) during their stay in Thailand, but is seeking advice on whether they can apply for a second SEV for their second entry after leaving Thailand for a short trip to Malaysia. Responses from the community advise against applying for a second SEV while the first one is still valid and point out that the timeframe to obtain a tourist visa in Malaysia is too short. They recommend considering a Multiple Entry Tourist Visa (METV) before leaving the UK for increased flexibility and a potential extension option.

Have you been to Malaysia before ? The reason I ask , check the reviews of hotels before renting. The number of complaints about bed bugs is mind boggling. Last time I was there , I stayed in a pod. Small but extremely clean bedding.

Metv gets you 180 days

Never assume that you will get the 30 day extension, people tend to think it's automatic and are disappointment. You also run a risk of the immigration officer not even allowing you in the country since you don't have a return ticket at 30 days.

There are many visa options for a reason! Just choose the one that meets your requirements and apply for that visa instead of trying to come up with your own version.

They are not going to issue you a second visa while the first is still valid, and, as already mentioned, 5 days isn't going to be enough time to get another 60 day visa. If you just can't bring yourself to make the effort to get the METV, you will have to come back on the 30 day visa exemption, and then do a 30 day extension. Be sure to have your return flight info to the UK info handy in case an IO gets antsy that you are trying to find ways to stay in Thailand long-term, and wants to see you are planning on returning home.

METV is the right visa for you,get it before you leave ,do t get it too early as the visa is valid for 6 months from day of being issued

no, you can't do that. The only way you could is by using the first one to enter Thailand, then leave Thailand to apply for the second one. And as
@Bra****
said 5 days is not long enough to do that in Malaysia. You could apply for a Multiple Entry Tourist Visa (METV) before you leave the UK which is valid for 6 months and every entry into Thailand during those 6 months gets you stamped in for 60 days.

You're not going to get a tourist visa from any of the embassies/consulates in Malaysia in 5 days. They take around a month to process visa applications. The only place you could possibly get one so fast would be in Laos.

You can travel to Thailand with a single entry tourist visa, leave and return within the 60 days permission to stay, and then return and get a 30-day visa exempt. During your 30 days you can apply for a 30-day tourist extension from your local immigration office. That's going to be the lowest friction method, though applying for an extension can be an all-day event depending on what office you are using.

thank you for your super speedy response. I obviously didn't explain myself clearly enough. I wasnt sure if I could apply for a SEV for our second stay in thailand from the UK before we left to avoid the need to get the 30 day extension. I realise it would involve a second payment and more application forms to fill in but is it actually allowed/possible? Would it be considered as two seperate visits so two visas are ok?

Sally Jackson No you cannot have two active unused visas

Sally Jackson when you return from KL you will need to check with your airline that they are ok with you having an onward ticket outside of the visa exempt stamp, many Airlines need you to have an onward ticket within the visa exempt period before they allow you to board

OP
Graham Seal that's what I originally thought thank you for clarifying. I should be ok with a 30 day free stay plus extension though shouldn't I?
