Need advice on re-entering Thailand after visa rejection

Hi everyone, I’d really appreciate some advice from anyone who has experience with Thai immigration, especially in a similar situation.

I’m a Vietnamese passport holder and I previously lived and worked in Thailand on a Non-B visa + work permit.

My travel history this year is:

• Trip 1: Left Thailand and returned while my Non-B visa and work permit were still valid. I had a re-entry permit.

• Trip 2: Same situation — I still had my work permit/visa and used a re-entry permit.

• Trip 3: I left Thailand specifically to cancel my work permit and Non-B visa.

• Now: I’m currently in Vietnam. I recently applied for a new Thai visa, but unfortunately it was rejected.

I’m considering flying back to Thailand on September 8, entering under visa exemption as a visitor/tourist while I figure out my next visa option.

My concern is that this would be my 4th Vietnam → Thailand entry this year, although the previous entries were not visa runs — two were while I had a valid Non-B/work permit, and one was specifically to deal with cancellation of my previous status.

I will have proof of accommodation, sufficient funds, and an onward/return ticket.

Do you think I’m likely to have problems at immigration because of the number of entries, or is this history reasonably explainable?

Has anyone been in a similar situation recently, especially at BKK or DMK?

I’d really appreciate experiences from people who have actually dealt with immigration in a similar situation. Thank you!
Answer summary
A Vietnamese passport holder seeks advice on re-entering Thailand after a visa rejection following multiple entries in the same year. They previously held a Non-B visa and work permit but left Thailand to cancel them. Now, they're considering entering Thailand under visa exemption as a tourist while they explore other visa options. Concerns arise about potential immigration scrutiny due to their travel history. Commenters provide mixed advice, emphasizing the risks of attempting to enter without a proper visa and suggest obtaining a new visa before traveling back.

You have also created another issue.

You can kill your extension by leaving the country but you cannot cancel a WP or a non-b extension by doing that.

Both need to be done in Thailand before you exit.

This may be related to why you were rejected as technically you may have had a still valid extension.

Get here before the 15th because the tourist visa goes to 30 days

You had a valid visa before. So there should be no problem. The number of entries do not matter at all.

Ignore the anonymous nay sayers.

You did cancel your previous visa, right? If the visa is not canceled properly, that would be the reason your new visa request was denied.

For what type of Visa did you apply?

The big question nobody is asking is why are you coming here? Obviously it is not a temple you missed seeing from previous 3 trips.

chooserich007 Did you read my post carefully? I was still working until the end of May this year and I canceled my Work Permit and Non-B visa at the beginning of June (both date expired until September), but for some reason I quit my job. So, as I mentioned before, the first 2 times I went I had a re-entry permit stamp, the third time I entered with tourist visa so I could wait for my 3-month bank statement and prepare the necessary documents for the DTV, but unfortunately I was rejected even though I had an agent taking care of everything, in the end I received nothing.

I need to go back and find another solution because I still have a lease until April next year.

SolidKiwi3260 Yes, I read your original post but you never explained why you want to go back now supposedly the 4th trip with a visa. The latest reply is that you have a condo lease till April so you want to go back and live out the rest of your lease which I assumed still has 8 months. Why not just cancel the lease with the owner and lose your 2 months security deposit? If this is your only reason to go back, it seems better to lose 2 months than 8 months of rent. You need to come up with a better story of why you are making a 4th trip here and why you want a visa.

SolidKiwi3260 Having your travel history, you should definitely have *everything* planned out well.

Firstly, make sure you meet *all* the entry requirements

Secondly, you definitely need to have a good reason as to why you want to enter Thailand again. The IO will see all your entries and on what visa you arrived.

You should be able to explain why you cancelled your work visa.

Don't talk about a condo lease you have or a DTV - unless they ask you. Then you must have a good explanation as to why you want to enter again on a tourist visa. Everything has to be truthful and honest.

But don't give out anything unless you are asked specifically.

Nobody can answer your question, if you will face problems. I personally would bet, you will have detailed questioning. Why not apply for the DTV from Vietnam, as you are already there and you are a citizen of Vietnam. That would seem a lot more plausible.

Let me just say, if I was an IO I'd be suspecting that you are coming back to start working again, but this time you are asking on arrival for a tourist visa (visa exemption), so I'd probably deny your entry.

So, as others said, going for a visa before arrival would be much less risky...

I hope it all goes well for you.

Leaving Thailand does not cancel an extension of stay based on working in Thailand, nor does it cancel your work permit. This may well be why your application was refused, either that or they think you are going to continue working on the DTV. As to entering visa exempt, that will be up to the immigration officer you stand in front of but not having cancelled your extension and work permit me count against you

SolidKiwi3260 ok, it's just you said you left to cancel them, and leaving doesn't. You need to officially cancel them

No problem of leaving a'd re entering under Non B +work'permit. These don't count. If you never entered as a full tourist yet. You still can, you also have the right of'one extension and 2 Land border. So 30+30, border run 30, border run 30.

You won't be able to extend the 2 land border

I think it is high risk right now. Definately purchase a round trip flight and have 20k baht ready. Or try the land border crossing. There is still a company offering visa run at selected dates.

Your previous travel history shouldn't be an issue because those entries were under a valid Non-B with a re-entry permit and cleanly closed out. The main factor is your recent visa rejection. Regardless of which visa type was denied, immigration officers at the airport can see embassy rejection records, which means entering on a visa exemption so soon after might trigger additional questions about your intentions.

Returning under a visa exemption gives you time to collect your belongings, handle personal affairs, or figure out your next steps. If an immigration officer asks about the rejection, explain that your previous status was cancelled properly, your recent visa was rejected, and you are entering briefly as a tourist while you organize your affairs.

Before flying, complete your DTAC. You will also need 20,000 baht equivalent in physical cash, hotel bookings, and a confirmed onward flight ticket out of Thailand within your permitted stay window, which airlines in Vietnam check strictly before issuing a boarding pass. Keep your answers simple and your paperwork ready for the smoothest experience. Good luck

4th entry + previous Non-B and entering as a "tourist", that's far from being ideal. You'll need a visa before coming back.

No one here can help you with Thailand entry. Even with valid Thai visa you may deny entry. The authorithy to let you in counntry is entirely at discretion of immigration officer you meet at entry point.

Anonymous participant 765 what do u mean nothing to do with immigration officer?? hes afraid he will get refuse entering Thailand. Who else if not the immigration officer would have authority to refuse his entry??? could you even tell? 🤣🤣🤣. Even if he has a valid thai visa it DOES NOT guarantee the entry to Thailand. Immigration officer reserve the rights and authority to refuse anyone entry at their discretion.

Some agents have connections directly with immigration and can pre-screen anyone before they travel so they know if they will get refused entry.

Don’t take the risk coming back on visa exemption as a denied entry would not be helpful if you apply for a new visa. Plus you ll only get 30 days, and after ? Instead try to apply for DTV, METV or else ?

SolidKiwi3260 I would try to apply again first, METV, if it doesn’t work your options will be : a new NON B if possible or elite or marry a Thai lady ^^, if your goal is to absolutely live in Thailand. ;) many friends of mine left Thailand for Vietnam or Philippines. Bali is also an option. I have a Thai wife so we live in Thailand but I would not mind to live in Philippines or Bali . Life is good there too.

SolidKiwi3260 it sounds like you’ve had extensive travel history with Thailand I would not try to enter without a proper visa DTV’s are often rejected when going from a WP in Thailand to DTV
