Recommendations for Pet euthanasia services in Chiang Mai? (sorry, not an immigration issues, hopefully it falls into the 'anything else' catagory!?)

Found a puppy lying on the road (mother and other pups were up on the bank and all looked healthy. The puppy didn't look physically harmed, just scruffy and sickly compared to the other puppies.)

So we picked it up and took it to a local vet, turns out the puppy has distemper (usually fatal for a puppy, although she is in 200% better shape today than she was yesterday.)

Anyway, decided that we would look after her for a week and see if and how well she recovers, and if she seems to be getting better we will nurse her back to health until she tests negative and is able to go to a local shelter.

If she gets worse, then I guess we will need to look at the sad alternative. I know that most vets will not offer these services in Thailand because of their beliefs.

I've been reading something from 2010 or so about Dr. Nook (which is still operating, but not sure if they still offer this service, as I can't find a more recent review than 2010 ... anyone know if they still do this service, or any other places around Chiang Mai that does?)

Thanks

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user in Chiang Mai is seeking recommendations for pet euthanasia services after finding a puppy with distemper. They discovered that in Thailand, euthanasia is tightly regulated and can only be performed by veterinarians under specific circumstances, such as terminal illness with clear evidence. Comments suggest contacting Dr. Nook's veterinary office, which offers such services, and provide details about the required documentation for euthanasia. Users also mentioned local resources such as animal welfare associations and the significance of adhering to legal requirements regarding animal euthanasia.

Just to follow up in case anyone else in Chiang Mai runs into a similar situation.

The last couple of days the puppy started getting worse, until this morning she was not eating at all, and started regular convulsions, so I called up The Veterinary office of Dr. Nook (you can look up the office & contact number on the Internet) to see if they could help, which they said they could do, but to bring in the bill from the last vet that did the diagnosis of 'distemper'.

So wrapped her up in her small bed and drove down to Dr. Nook's office on a street just south of the Old City (about 20 minutes) but by the time I got there the puppy had already passed away.

To make it clear, They will NOT provide this service lightly and you will need to show them (with documentation) that there is no hope of recovery (I already had the diagnosis of distemper, which in a puppy is pretty much 90% plus fatal, and had I made it to the office with her still alive it would have been pretty obvious there service was justified.)

This is not a place to go to to get rid of a nuance pet, but if you have a pet that is obviously in need of this kind of service (and medical evidence ... which I assume they will help provide if you are willing to pay for tests ... which I had already had available, but had I not they would have done the same tests and I assume I would have to [gladly] pay.)

The doctor on site was also helpful in guiding us through the disinfection process for the isolated room we kept her in (as we have our own dogs, and while they were vaccinated against distemper it is not always 100% effective) which consisted of a lot of bleach & water and not to let the other dogs in that room for 2 months!!)

It's not just 'against their beliefs', it's against the law in Thailand to kill a dog. The only time a vet will/can euthanasia an animal is if they won't recover.

thanks for the heads up!

so I guess my follow-up question would be who makes that determination (ability to recover) and since distemper is a serious and highly contagious animal disease who can I contact to find out how to handle this?
