ORIGINAL POSTERHi guys thanks for all the info posted . A mate of mine will be losing his job next week and his work permit / visa . He needs to go to Vientiane to get a 60 day Tourist visa . What paperwork etc does he need and ie photos . Also how much is the Loas entrance visa and are photos needed ? Thanks in advance for all the great info.

Visa cost ranges from $20 (China) to $42 (Canada) plus $1 'overtime' after 4pm. Sweden is $31, $35 for the USA, UK and most of Europe, $40 for India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka and $30 for Australia and other countries.
If you're gonna use USD make sure they're crisp notes otherwise they'll make you pay in baht.

The thai consulate in Vientiane is easily the most user friendly. All he needs is his passport, copies of the data page of his passport, 2 passport sized photos (3 really because you need one to get the visa for Lao) and the filled out application that you get for free at the consulate.

Eric, ALL of them are pretty user friendly IF you meet the requirements they have posted on their websites.
Vientiane is the ONLY one in S/E Asia that doesn't require any proof of funds, proof of onward travel or proof of hotel or lodging
Hong Kong, Savannakhet Lao, Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Penang are all okay IF you meet the requirements.

Umm, I believe you can't just drive your car into Lao without getting a car passport from the DLT before hand.
