What options do I have for extending my guardian visa while traveling outside Thailand?

Boring update which may be useful to somebody. My one-year guardian (of half-thai children) extension expires March 18, and I am traveling from April 5 to May 5. I could not do another one-year extension, because the full stamp would be approved when I am not in the country (they give you under consideration and ask you to come back a month later for the full stamp, around middle of April when I'm not here). So, what to do? Instead, I did a 60-day family visit (Thai wife), which puts my 1-year extension date in May when I am back in Thailand. The IO asked a lot of questions about why I wasn't doing the one-year extension, he didn't seem thrilled but my wife was there and talked to him and explained the situation. My experience may be different than yours, just wanted to share.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user shared their experience regarding the expiration of their one-year guardian extension as they plan to travel abroad. Due to timing issues, they were unable to apply for another one-year extension before leaving Thailand and opted instead for a 60-day family visit visa related to their Thai wife. This will allow them to align their extension needs with their return in May. Community comments suggested alternative strategies, such as negotiating an earlier one-year extension application with supporting travel documentation.

Another possibility (no guarantee though) is,

There were a few reports someone successfully negotiated and managed to apply for a 1-year extension in advance with a longer under-consideration period.

You go to the I/O with the proof that you are NOT in Thailand within the specific window, then ask them if they accept your application before you leave and set the come back date after you are back. As proof of that, you need an international round-trip ticket with a fixed date on it. Open tickets wouldn't do a trick.

The worst thing is they say you cannot, but not worse than the current situation.

Thank you for sharing. Lucky you haven't gotten 60 days family visit extension before.

This could be one of the solutions for some people.
