I applied for a non O extension based on marriage at Samut Prakhan on 7th Sep. they told me I should normally collect on 7th October, but because they are busy to leave it till 12th October.

Today I got a phone call from them asking me to update my bank book and send proof that funds had not been withdrawn.

Took in the photocopy and updated bank book and asked why I could not get my extension now. They said need to see I had not withdrawn the funds, which I understand. But going again on Monday with the bank book updated once again seems like a waste of everyone’s time.

Extension is not granted until you prove the money is still there.

Anyone else have this issue

The marriage visa has a lot of bs problems that go along with it. Why not just do the Retirement visa instead. A lot less probs.

OP
Dave Goodman it’s never been a problem for years, but for some reason this year they want to check the bank balance half way through the process

Tony Dixon it’s a hassle as they sometimes wanna see pics of the wife together at the crib. Or the “under review” timeframe and having to go back n forth. Sometimes they even may show up at your residence to inspect. Bunch of nonsense.

W the Retirement visa it’s all done at once. And if the wife ever divorces you the marriage visa is rendered invalid and u need to leave the country and reapply for another visa.

On the date of divorce the marriage-based extension generally becomes invalid because the qualifying marriage has ended.

You can then ask immigration to give you the 7-day period to depart Thailand but This is not an automatic grace period. It must be applied for.

Dave Goodman If you qualify (over 50) on the day of divorce you go to Immigration and cancel the marriage extension and change the reason for your extension to retirement. Divorce does not happen overnight so you have time to season your 800k to get the change of reason.

Best to always expect a bump in the road everytime- a rule thats changed, being bent or something you forget or didnt know about.

Its best to think of it from a Thai perspective as the process is theirs: keeping government employees relevant and busy is never a waste of time

It is not uncommon that the immigration office ask you keep the funds in the account during the "under consideration" stamp period on marriage extensions

Bangkok used to require you do it but they don't do it any more. Samut Prakan isn't the only one that requires this

But they would have seen that on Monday when I went to get the extension stamp and could refuse then. That’s what confuses me.

you are correct, but sadly, you're looking for logic where none exists :/
