What is the validity period of a Non-O retirement visa versus the entry stamp duration in Thailand?

I received a non-O 90 day retirement visa while still on the US in May. It shows an expiration date in August, 90 days after it was granted. I thought the 90 days started on arrival, in my case June 1 as stamped in my passport. In that case it would expire September 1. Which is correct?
Answer summary
The Non-O retirement visa is valid for entry into Thailand for 90 days from the date it is issued; in this case, it was issued in May, expiring in August. However, once entered into Thailand, you would receive a 90-day entry stamp that begins on your arrival date (June 1) and would expire September 1. Thus, there are two different dates to be aware of: the visa validity period and the period allowed for stay after entry.

Double Check and Verify Again that your Non–O E–Visa Entry Stamp was for 90 Days, as the Day of Entry = Day #1

Thanks to all who replied - that actually makes sense!

One is the expiry of the visa validity. And the other is the expiry of the stay permit.

You are confusing two completely separate things

One is the validity of the visa itself and that's 3 months from the date they issue it <- that is how long you have to ENTER thailand. In your case if the visa was issued in May it would be valid for entry until August.

The other is how long you get stamped in for when you arrive, present the PDF visa with your passport and that is 90 days from the date you stamp in.

Even if you arrived in thailand the last day the visa itself was valid for you would still get a 90 day entry stamp

Look at the entry stamp you got when you entered the country it should have Non-O in the visa type (maybe they wrote eVisa) and it should have an admitted until date of probably Aug 30th
