Hi!

I have a question about changing my visa from a Non-immigrant ED to a travel one. Basically from the information I got, the only way is to leave the country and come back. If I would do that I am not required to have a visa under 30 days.

Is a possible to change my visa or do I need to leave the country? If I would, is it possible to have problems after coming back or that will be an easy process?

TLDR : Answer Summary
To change your Non-immigrant ED visa to a travel visa, you must leave Thailand since visa type changes cannot be made within the country. When re-entering, while you typically won't need a visa for stays under 30 days, the ease of re-entry can depend on various factors and is ultimately determined by the immigration officer at the border. It's advisable to carry proof of funds, onward travel, and accommodation to facilitate smoother re-entry.

No visa or extension as a tourist changing from any other type of entry/extension inside Thailand. You must leave Thailand once.

The process itself is not difficult, but it's a different thing if you can enter Thailand again easily.

It is the question only the officer in front of you at entry can answer if you have an issue on coming back and entering Thailand again or not.

Also, it depends on too many factors if you have problems AFTER coming back to Thailand.

In case you are on an extension based on studying already, you had better cancel your extension before you leave if 1 or 2.

1. You want to stay on another long-term visa/extension in future.

2. You want to do a border-bounce through a land border.

In case you are still on the first 90 days of Non-ED visa, no need to worry about it because it cannot be cancelled.

To enter Thailand again, it could be a good idea to be prepared with proof of funds (20K baht cash), onward travel, and accommodation.
