Good morning to the community,

I am currently holding a visa OB with working permit.

There is a risk that my employer stops it’s activities in Thailand in august. Should that happen I want to stay with my family in Thailand under a “retiree visa”.

Where can I get info on the process to do so ?

Thks in advance

TLDR : Answer Summary
A community member, Marc Bailliart, is looking for advice on transitioning from a visa OB, with a work permit, to a retiree visa in Thailand due to potential employment issues. Suggestions from the community include the necessity of applying for a Non Immigrant O, O-A, or O-X visa abroad, as changing the reason for the current Non Immigrant B visa is not permitted. Discussions also covered family visa options and the importance of having multiple entry visa stickers for extended stays.

Are you sure you and your family have multiple entry visa stickers, not a 1-year extension of stay with multiple re-entry permits?

Talk with both Chumchuri AND Chaengwattana (if you are in Bangkok or your local IO) if possible about how to change those for your family well in advance.

@Ma**
, In that case, you can change your reason for extension from employment to being over 50 with no problem as long as you are meeting the requirements for a new reason.

You apply for cancellation at Chumchuri, then go to Chaengwattna (or the local immigration office that serves your address) to apply for a new extension before the latest stamp expires.

I think your family can also apply for the new reason as dependants to you in the same manner. But I'd like to double-check with
@T**
about your family part.

IF you use the Non Immigrant B visa and your family the Non Immigrant O visa, you all leave and come back every maximum 90 days, the visa stays valid until the day mentioned on the visa.

You can not change the reason of your Non Immigrant B visa, so you have to apply for a Non Immigrant O or O-A or O-X visa abroad and your family again for the Non Immigrant O visa based on being dependent, get 90 days of stay and after 60 days apply all for the 1 year Extension of Stay based on the same reason as the visa's.

never heard it happen but doesn't mean it couldn't. Certainly I'd go talk to the immigration office well in advance of this cancel the employment get a retirement extension and see what can be done for the trailing spouse.
