An FYI in respect of extending a tourist visa at Promenada, Chiang Mai.

Arrived at 13:00 (Monday). Queue outside the immigration office (the actual outside between the two malls, not at the seats inside the mall, initially made that mistake). They check your paperwork, take your cash and give you a ticket.

One thing to note is that they won’t accept passport photo sized photos, you have to get the bigger ones (฿200 at the copy shop next door).

You then go inside and wait for your number to be called. It’s a lot slower than my experience at the Phuket office. Whole process took about 3.5hrs - I think there were about 60 numbers in front of me (30 mins in initial Q, 3hrs once I had a ticket).

They also don’t seem to be fussed about what you are wearing.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The process of extending a tourist visa at Promenada in Chiang Mai includes arriving at the immigration office, waiting in an outdoor queue to check paperwork, and obtaining a ticket after paying the fee. It's important to note that only larger passport photos are accepted, which can be found at a nearby shop for about ฿200. The overall waiting time can be lengthy, with the entire process taking around 3.5 hours. Casual attire is acceptable, as the immigation staff are not concerned about visitors' clothing.

Those bizarre size photos are available at photo shop's for a 100 baht. We're casual up in the north. I actually saw a guy in a kilt once. No

they just want the 1900 baht with the form filled out and the photo. Must be that special size only.

Sounds to me like they want to stop anyone staying in Thailand,

Thanks! Did they ask for anything else?

Just the usual paperwork (copies of departure card, passport photo page and current stamp, one photo and a completed TM7).

Interesting thanks, any sign at the entrance showing what casual attire is discouraged?

Yes loads. And no one got turned away - very different to Phuket where they are very strict.
