TLDR : Answer Summary
To extend your tourist visa in Chiang Mai for an additional 30 days, you need to fill out the TM 7 application form. Along with that, you must provide a passport picture, and copies of your ID page, visa page, admitted to stay stamp, and departure card. The fee for the extension is 1,900 THB. The process typically takes about 5 minutes after handing over your documents, but it is important to also check if a TM 30 form is required, which may be needed based on current regulations.

What about the TM 30? Isn't it needed?

Officially, yes a TM30 is needed to have been filed before a tourist extension. However you definitely don't need the TM30 receipt for a tourist extension and I am not sure that they actually check it.

For a non-immigrant extension you DO need to provide the TM30 receipt with your extension application in Chiang Mai.

Application Form TM 7, 1 passport picture, copies of: ID page passport, visa page, admitted to stay stamp and departure card. Fees of 1.900 Thb. They check the papers put a stamp in your passport, so I would say max 5 minutes between handing over your documents and walk out.

As to time, it is variable. It can take 10-15 minutes if you are lucky but it can also take several hours if you are not, and at the moment is busy season. I would suggest you go in the afternoon, but before 16:30 which is when they stop taking applications. I think more people go in the morning, it's more likely to have a short queue in the late afternoon.
