What is the process for Australians to apply for a new passport in Thailand if it is lost or misplaced?

Hi. Looking for some fellow Australians to help.

I’ve either misplaced or lost my passport. If it’s lost, I’m looking for the process as I’m finding conflicting information online.

If anybody has been in a similar position - is it possible to apply for a new passport online as per passports.gov.au or is it necessary for me to go to the embassy in Bangkok?

If I can do either, is one option simpler than the other?

TIA

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses the challenges faced by an Australian expat in Thailand who has lost their passport and seeks guidance on the application process for a new one. The individual is unsure whether they can apply online or if they must visit the Australian embassy in Bangkok. Comments suggest that a police report is necessary for the application, and provide additional information regarding the availability of consulate services in Phuket.

Unfortunately this isn't THAI visa related enough to keep the thread open.

Can do in Phuket too.

You're going to need a police report stating that you lost the passport and then you get it from the Australian consulate here in Bangkok.
