Hi everyone. My husband and I will be visiting Thailand for the 1st time (30 days visa-free). We are South African Nationals and currently in India and will be traveling from India to Thailand end of November.

Please tell me the correct amount of currency/financial proof we would need to show immigration? I'm getting mixed messages. Some sites say we'll need to show 20,000 TBH per family and others say 40,000 TBH.

Does it have to be cash?

We'll be renting a friend's apartment, so do we need to get a letter from her, or do they only require an address?

Thanx

TLDR : Answer Summary
For South African nationals visiting Thailand visa-free for 30 days, it is generally required to show a financial proof of 20,000 THB per person or 40,000 THB per family. This amount should be in cash or its equivalent in major currencies.

extremely unlikely you will be asked to show but you are doing the right thing covering all the requirements that could potentially be asked.
