Could you please tell me the cheapest visa I can get to extend my stay here for about 6 months? I'm here on a tourist visa and am considering getting a language visa. Could you please tell me how much it will cost for 6 months?
Answer summary
The post inquires about the cheapest visa option for extending a stay in Thailand for approximately 6 months, with a current tourist visa. Several comments suggest focusing on the purpose of the visa rather than cost, indicating that the most suitable option would be a DTV visa for those working remotely, or an ED visa for students. A more affordable option mentioned is the METV, which can be strategically managed for a longer stay. Overall, the community emphasizes the importance of legitimate reasons for the visa rather than purely seeking the cheapest option.

Just buy the 6 month METV with a strategic border bounce you can get nearly 9 months out of it
Cost is ฿5k
Valid passport (at least 6 months validity + empty pages).
• Recent passport-sized photos.
• Flight itinerary (to/from Thailand).
• Proof of funds (e.g., bank statements showing sufficient balance, often ~$2,000 USD or equivalent for recent months; some require 200,000 THB equivalent).
• Proof of ties to home country (e.g., employment letter, business registration, or residency proof).
• Hotel booking or accommodation proof for first stay.
It depends on the reason you want a visa, not the cheapest visa. If you are working inside Thailand as a digital nomad you need to leave Thailand and apply for a DTV based on Workation. If you want to study you sign up for a school, get the paperwork from them to apply for an ED visa and attend classes but you can't legally work, even remotely.
Ken Williams nah, Dick clearly always buys the most expensive of everything, flights, shopping, visas everything! People like him turn these groups into cesspits
You want a visa for the reason you are in thailand ... nothing to do with the cost. Thailand wants to know why you are here and what you are doing ...they have no interest in what it will cost you 🙏
