Both me and my Thai wife are in our late 30’s. I’m very aware of the requirements for marriage visa. My question is this: if I’m in a marriage visa and she passes away (she’s older than me), what happens? I understand the house and land and all that Jazz I cannot own. I just wonder how the long-stay works. What if I’m 80 years old? Thanks.

TLDR : Answer Summary
If you are on a marriage visa in Thailand and your wife passes away, you can continue to stay in Thailand until your current visa or extension of stay expires. After that, you will need to explore other visa options to remain in the country. Your current age does not affect your visa stay duration.

The thing is you're NOT 80 years old you're in your late 30's so talking about what happens if your wife dies when your 80 is nothing but pure speculation :/

Yes, sir. I know. My apologies. I’m a bit of a thinker.

okay, lets get back on TOPIC.. The person is in their late 30's SO any talk of O-A visas or retirement visas/extension is about 20 years TOO soon,.

As far as their question IF they are on a valid year-long, multi-entry VISA from a thai consulate based on marriage to a thai and the spouse dies they can continue coming and going every 90 days on that visa until it runs out

AND

If they are on a yearly extension of stay based on marriage from an immigration office and the spouse dies they can stay until that extension expires and then they find a new way to stay.

If my wife and I have a child (we don’t yet) then would I qualify for the Non O dependent visa ? And is the 400k in the bank the same requirement.

its difficult to predict the future.

If you love her...get married.

Depends if you choose for the Non Immigrant O-A visa or just

Extension of Stay based on being over 50 years of age (easiest option)

So retirement visa with 800k in Thai bank and health insurance in Thailand?
Benjamin ******
You don't qualify for a retirement visa because you are in your 30s

@Bob ******
no health insurance is required.

As you apply for a 1 year Extension of Stay at the time, the maximum you can stay is 1 year, until the last day of that Extension of Stay.

Your age has nothing to do with that, you need to find another way to stay inside Thailand.

Stay is as long as your current permitted to stay date.
