What happens to a non-O retirement visa if I leave Thailand and do not return before it expires?

How visas are cancelled.

If I LEAVE the country with a non- O retirement Visa and re-entry permit and do not make it back before the date of expiration, is the Visa automatically cancelled? And IF NOT, how do I ensure it is cancelled before either applying for a different kind of Visa or returning on ‘Visa on arrival’?

It has to expire before you can apply for another visa

Nothing to cancel if you don't make it back in time, it's automatically expired. If, as it sounds, you want to change visa's or re-enter on a VE stamp, just don't buy a re-entry permit as that will also void any time left on your non O.

The retirement visa/extension is the only one that if you leave the country and don't come back until after it has expired, there is nothing needs to be done at the immigration office.

You don't need to cancel it before you leave and you're free to get another visa and come in on that or come in Visa exempt
