What happens if you enter Thailand one day before your visa expires?

So, here's something I've been wondering about. What happens at the end of the Visa period if you enter Thailand say one day before your Visa expires, will you still get 180 days or just the remaining time on your Visa? Has anyone spoken to immigration about this?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion centers around the implications of entering Thailand a day before a visa expires. Most responses suggest that one could expect to receive a 180-day stamp, though this is subject to the discretion of the immigration officer. There is some uncertainty about different visa types, with the METV visa offering clearer guidelines compared to the DTV and non-immigrant visas. Ultimately, individual experiences may vary, and it's advised to consult with immigration for specific cases.

The truth is, no one knows for sure yet. There are plenty of fortune tellers here. The METV visa works that way, but non-immigrant visas don’t. People love comparing things but DTV has its own rules. In the end, the immigration officer will have the final say.

With the METV visa, you still get another 60 days + 30 so you can extend the 6-month validity to nearly 9 months. So I expect it will be the same for a DTV, another 180 days and possibly + 180 which would give you nearly 6 years.

Enjoy your DTV why worry about 5 years time FFS could be a new visa by then or whatever

Theoretically you would still get stamped for 180 days. In practice though, good luck with that. It's up to the IO and his/her mood.

and extend for 180 days too depending on mood :-)

You mean at the end of the 5 year validity you re-enter a day before the visa end date? People used to do this will METV to get almost 9 months on it with 60 days plus 30 extension. Nobody can tell you what Immigration will do. Ask in in July 2029?

Still get 180 days

How do you know?

Anonymous participant because that’s how all other Thai visas work

I wish my thai visa works that way but it's not. I get permitted until the expiration of my visa. Non-B. That's the case with other non-immigrant visas. METV is the only exception.

Anonymous participant 648 it’s quite likely that your ‘visa’ is in fact an extension of stay now.

Your initial 90 day visa did indeed work like that. It had a validity period (valid from <date> to <date>) and you would get a 90 day stamp at immigration when you entered the country during that period.

Now you’re on extensions your re entry permit gets you stamped in till the end date of that extension.

Anonymous participant 648 no it’s not. OA also works like that among others. Do your research first.
