Has anyone brought a dog to Thailand from London Heathrow to Bangkok using Thai airways

I’m having an aweful lot of trouble with the airline

The dog is fully vaccinated and has all the necessary documentation for import and export

The problem is Thai airways keep telling me incorrect information

Some staff say it’s okay and then when I ring again some staff say it’s not allowed

I know it’s not allowed Bangkok to Heathrow or on the smaller internal flights but when I booked my airline ticket I was given the okay and there website says it’s okay

I’m trying to send my small dog via baggage

Thanks In advance for anyone that share experiences or help
Answer summary
The post discusses challenges a member faced while attempting to bring their dog from London Heathrow to Bangkok using Thai Airways. Despite having all necessary vaccinations and documents, the author received conflicting information from airline staff regarding the pet's travel arrangements, specifically concerning whether the dog could travel in the hold as baggage. Several commenters shared their own pet transport experiences, often recommending alternative airlines which have better reputations for transporting pets, such as Korean Air and Eva Air, or suggesting using pet relocation services like Fetchapet and Relo4Paws to handle logistics and paperwork.

A friend found BKK to LHR impossible but BKK to Amsterdam OK then they drove dogs to UK ...... you might look into departures from different country,s.

I bought my 4 chi's over but I used a company to do the paperwork and bring them over as it was alot to put together for 4 dogs. What breed is the dog because thai airways won't bring flat nosed dogs over.

I flew with Eva Air last September. They were fantastic despite arriving at LHR in the middle of chaos where the systems had all shut down and flights being cancelled left right and centre due to a cyber security alert. Imagine that with my 2 pups in their crates. The staff were amazing and got us through and on our flight with maybe the tiniest bit of drama. We had an hour delay on the runway but we all arrived safely in Bangkok despite all of that.

We will be doing this next year. I thought you just called the airline and booked your tickets and at same time added on the place for your pet in hold £300ish for this. Is this not the case? we plan to use thai airways from London to Bangkok too.

OP
Kellie Logan so much more involved

They have to put in a request and it could be declined

They don’t tell you half that’s involved

Just get agents to do it for you

I ended up getting fetcha pet and relo paws for the Thai end

Wished I’d done it initially

OP
Yes

I kept quoting there website to them but it made no difference

I wished I’d just got the agents in the first place would have saved a lot of stress

Initially I did everything myself

All vacations up to date

Import and export

All the paperwork and exact crate ect but in the end I didn’t trust the airline to get it right upon arrival

They kept getting confused about what flights pets can travel on

It’s the small Thai airline planes that can’t travel on internally in Thailand but other airlines do

Heathrow to Bangkok direct is allowed

Some of the staff didn’t have a clue and we kept going around in circles me actually telling them the rules and regulations

I didnt want to get to Heathrow with dog and get turned away because the check in staff apparently can do that so hence the agents

So much better now

I havnt got to worry the agents are dealing with everything now

Best thing I could have done and wished I’d done it sooner xx

And advice to anyone just get an agent

Heathrow cargo recommend both the agents I’m using

OP
Kellie Logan you may have an easier experience than me but Thai airways were useless

I’ve ended up getting agents uk and Thai side now because I don’t trust them

One lady even said the government has changed its law and it’s a big no no but that was untrue

A lot of the Thai airways staff don’t k ow the rules and regulations and just say no to you or leave you on hold

It’s been a really challenging time

Mohan Siriwardena wow that's disappointing as I have seen a lot of people use this airline for their pets. It also states all this info on their website. Perhaps they need to train their staff with the company rules!!!

Kellie Logan you have to have vaccinations up to date, rabies vaccine, they have to have so much paperwork, I got skypaws to do my 4 dogs. You can't just buy a ticket.

I took two Chihuahuas from Aberdeen to Bangkok very easy with KLM and because they were small dogs they came in the cabin in their small cage and stayed under the seat.

I’m flying with my dog with Thai airways in July from london to Bangkok then Bangkok to Phuket.

I had the same issues but if you call them and book over the phone and then confirm crate size and weight etc

Give me a message if you need my help I did my cat 4 years ago but now doing my dog 🙂

Just to add my dog will go in the hold with the luggage and I will be on the same plane it’s not cargo 🙂
Mohan *************

OP
Chanelle Alexandra Connolly did all that

Kept calling them

Told them crate size

All the correct paperwork

Everything

In the end they said we will put in a request but it’s not guaranteed

I didn’t trust them after that as I needed more certainty
Chanelle *********************
Chanelle *********************
Mohan Siriwardena yeah they said the same to me and took a week for written approval from another department and I got it in writing
