What documents do I need to present at the airport upon arriving in Thailand with a non O-A visa, and how can my wife apply for a non O visa as a trailing spouse?

I have been issued a non O-A (retirement) visa from Canada - once the documentation was submitted it took only 1 working day to get approved!

My wife (also Canadian) and I will arrive into Krabi early November.

As this is my first time arriving with this type of visa, what will I need to present to the immigration officer at the airport - I want to be sure to have everything close at hand. I assume the printed O-A visa, valid passport, Health Insurance certificate?....anything else?

Also, my wife does not qualify for her own O-A visa, so she will apply for a non O in Thailand as a trailing spouse/depentant - is the marrage certificate all thats required for the non O for her?

Thank you for your help.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user has been approved for a Non O-A visa and is seeking clarity on what documents to present at immigration upon arrival in Thailand. Key required documents include the printed Non O-A visa, valid passport, health insurance certificate, and potential proof of accommodation. The user is also inquiring about the process for their wife, who does not qualify for a Non O-A visa and plans to apply for a Non O visa as a dependent. Responses indicate that she must apply for the Non O visa outside Thailand, as it's not granted for dependents of Non O-A holders within the country.

Are you aware that you may be able to get the Affidavit of Income letter from your Canadian Embassy in Bangkok? Without the need for any deposit in a Thai bank account to obtain the Non O Visa as retiree and the One year extension of stay as retired.

@James *******
, OP has already got Non-OA. And if he goes to Non-O route, his wife cannot get Non-O dependent on him.

thanks for the update ✅ as Canadians they both may benefit from the use of the Affidavit of Income letter from their Embassy in Bangkok.

thank you for the comment - it may be something to consider in the future. Currently, my wife does not meet the age requirement for a non OA visa and the monthly income method will not really work for us. I will continue with the non OA visa, meeting all the requirements, which should allow my wife to get the non O dependent/trailing spouse visa/extension for our stay in Thailand... hopefully it all goes as planned....but TIT

, Maybe OP has to consider, as it depends on what actually "my wife does not qualify for her own O-A visa" part means. In most requirements same to Non-O retirement visa

Given that you are both Canadian.. I'm assuming that you were not married in Thailand.. and unless you have done this already I'd suggest you obtain a translated copy of your marriage certificate.. meaning from English into Thai.. before you travel to Thailand.. this is likely to be needed at some stage of your future dealings with the Thai authorities.. and will probably be less costly to acquire in your home country.. it also removes the inconvenience of trying to get it done here.. especially if you suddenly need to produce it quickly.. just a thought!

When I arrived on my O-A in July they wanted to see both health insurance documents so they could figure out the expiry date for the stamp……visa expiry or insurance expiry….whatever comes first. BTW if you renew your insurance and arrive back in Th before your visa expiry you get another year (or expiry of insurance).

Pay attention to Ellie and apply for the Non-O for your wife at the same embassy you got your Non-OA from before you leave your home country. Your wife won't get a Non-O visa inside Thailand, nor in any nearby country

Q. anything else?

-> You should be good with those (Printed eVisa Non-OA, related insurance policy, passport) in hand physically at the passport control.

Q. she will apply for a non O in Thailand as a trailing spouse/depentant - is the marrage certificate all thats required for the non O for her?

-> Well, sadly she cannot apply for her Non-O dependent on you inside Thailand. Immigration offices don't issue Non-O dependents to retirement visa holders. She must apply for her Non-O outside Thailand. Apply for her visa BEFORE you leave for Thailand through eVisa to the embassy/consulate in Canada using the information of your Non-OA.

They should issue Non-O dependent on Non-OA holders. Check their requirements.

When you two enter Thailand you will be stamped in until your insurance ends (or 365 days if shorter) and she will be stamped for 90 days.

Once in Thailand and when her stamp gets less than 30 days, go to the local immigration office to apply for her extension based on being a spouse to you as a Non-OA holder. Then she will get her extension matching your stamp.

Don't forget to get the latest requirements for her when you are in Thailand and in advance of her application.

do you know which specific category the trailing spouse would apply for from Canada?

@Tod ********
thank you 🙏🏼! Is it the same as you’ve shown above if the original Visa applicant has applied and received the Non-immigrant O instead of the Non-Immigrant OA?
Tod *********
@Benny ****
nope, No embassy will sell trailing spouse to a Non-O visa holder a Non-O visa

ONLY if the spouse has a Non-OA can the trailing one get a Non-O
