I just crossed the border. They asked my onward ticket I said I haven’t booked it yet but they still gave me the visa

You show up at that Nong Khai border crossing, you pay 2000baht, IF you're asked, you show proof of onward travel, proof of funds and proof of a hotel booking and you get a "visa on arrival" for 15 days.
