What documents are needed for entry on a UK visitor visa and can I travel with different passports?

Has anyone entered the UK on a visitor visa and can remember what documents we need to have ready for the entry officer?

We got the visa 4 years ago so I can't remember the details. Posting in this group because many members have Thai family.

Also, my wife needs to depart Thailand on an old passport to stamp out, but re-enter Thailand on a renewed passport (she's not Thai). Norse only allows one passport number per passenger (and isn't responding to help requests). Can I give the airline her new passport, even though we will stamp out on the old one? Does anyone care if they don't match?

Huge thanks

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses requirements for entering the UK on a visitor visa, particularly what documents to prepare for UK border control. It mentions confusion around using an old passport to exit Thailand while intending to re-enter on a renewed passport. Community responses suggest taking both passports, as the airline and immigration typically allow for discrepancies between travel documents. Additional comments emphasize checking UK immigration guidelines and visa application requirements online.

Regarding the passports. I have 2 for business and check out of the departure country (not UK) on one and check in to Thailand on the second, with no issues on departure and arrival. Obviously my DTAC is filled out with the Thailand arrival passport details. When departing Thailand I generally have to show both passports at the departure desk, to show the visa in the other passport. No issues the twice I have done it so far. FYI I wanted my recently acquired Non-O Retirement visa and 12 month extension (and multi re-entry permit) in my new 2025 passport rather that in the other one which expires in 2028.

My suggestion is travel out on the old passport and give that number for your ticket. Travel back with the new passport but have the old passport at hand to show the airline at check-in.

That probably makes sense, pending an answer from them, as leaving the UK will be easier than entering, thanks Martin.

The passport you use on the airline booking has no connection to immigration. It doesn't matter or dictate what passport immigration will want.

Thank you, that was my guess, and I guess use old passport so it has the Thai entry stamp in case check-in looks for it.

immigration will almost certainly want to see the passport with the entry stamp. Check in are unlikely to care about that. If you have both you'll be covered either way.

Take both passports when stamping out. I suspect they'll actually put the exit stamp in the new passport

I'm not sure what's not clear. She will fly out on one passport, and return on a second. Which one do we give the airline to put on the ticket?

imho you can only give the airline the passport number she will travel home on. When she renews her passport I would suspect that the computer systems will also be updated with your wife’s new passport details.

I’ve just flown with a new passport and immigration both in England and Thailand didn’t bat an eyelid .

Thanks. She has already renewed her passport. She's Ethiopian so will be treated like a criminal by airline and UK.
