How can I manage my UK passport renewal while on a SETV in Thailand?

Advice needed. I'm running out of blank pages(4 remaining) in my UK passport. I currently have a 60 day SETV which I will extent in Chiang Mai for another 30 days in 4 weeks time.

I then have to go to China for a few days and then I want to return to Chiang Mai on another 60 day SETV.

I've heard that I cannot get a SETV in China from a Consulate there. If this is the case then maybe I will have to fly to Laos or Hong Kong to get one.

I have a few questions that hopefully someone can me with.

1. Will I be able to get another SETV without any problem and keep leaving the country every 3 months to get more?

2. Do I have to go to the UK Consulate in BKK to apply for a new UK passport and have it posted by the Consulate to the UK for the issue of another one?

3.can I fly back to Chiang Mai from the BKK consulate without my passport? I do not have a Thai Driving in Licence.

4. Will I have to fly back to the UK Consulate in BKK to collect my new and old passport when it's been issued in the UK and posed back to BKK?

5. Could I just post my passport to my parents in the UK, get them to send it to the passport agency with the completed forms/photos etc, have the new and old one posted to them in the UK and then have them post it back to me in Chiang Mai?

6. I suppose I will have to apply for a new passport once I have obtain my second SETV and have arrived back in Chiang mai.

Thanks in advance for your help.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The poster is seeking advice on managing the renewal of their UK passport while in Thailand, where they currently hold a 60-day Single Entry Tourist Visa (SETV) with plans to extend it. They are also concerned about traveling to China and potentially obtaining a new SETV from neighboring countries. Key questions address the process of applying for a new passport, including responsibilities to travel without it, whether they can send their UK passport home for renewal, and the implications of using a full passport for travel and visa regulations.

It is likely to take a month from start to finish. You can do it yourself and take all the documents to VfS Global (and collect the new passport from them) or you can appoint a third party to do it for you.The instructions above are quite clear but supplying evidence of your address in Thailand is not easy for some.

@R**
. Yes, you retain your old passport, when I said "surrender" I meant show for ID purposes

Thanks
@Steve ******
I agree entirely about the logic of that. You do actually retain the old passport"for ID purposes" and only the copies of the old PP go to Liverpool.
Steve *******
Via VFS they like a confirmed Thai address, however the passport office in Liverpool will accept proof of a UK address, I used a bank statement.
@R**
you have to pick up the passport in person and surrender your old passport, so in theory they dont need proof of address.
Ray *********
... whilst this may infer Thailand, it is not specific.I can imagine that it may e possible to evidence a UK address and supply a covering note that says you are staying temporarily in Thailand. The passports have to be collected from VfS so the address is arguably irrelevant.

Current address

Give your full residential address (where you live)

including state or province, and postcode (where

applicable).

@Steve ******
. where does it say that about a UK address ?
Steve *******
They must have been busy. Took me about 10 days. You can supply evidence of an address in the UK also

I have to say, getting my new bumper size passport in bkk as described here was very quick, I don't remember how many days but super quick. Was the same when I got a new passport in Bali. So don't hang around.

Yes I went to the Trendy Office Building, booked an appt online, it was a very easy process and no hassle. Got my passport back in less than two weeks

@Dan ********
sorry Dan, I don't understand your question

@Richard ******
I can't compare as I never had the pleasure of attending a British Embasy, but the service I had at the Trendy Building was faultless and incredibly easy
Dan *********
Turn up at trendy and not follow the details to send back to London?? Details please or have I got this wrong?
Richard *******
It was a damn sight quicker and more convenient when you could do it at the British embassy though 😧

Don't wait until it is too late. I allowed my passport to fill and it was a huge pain in the ass to straighten out. Deal with it now while you still have time.

Go to this website and it'll say how to get a new UK passport

Many thanks Robert and Richard.

You do not need to surrender your old passport in BKK while you are waiting for a new one. Also you do not apply for a new passport at the British embassy in Bangkok, you apply at UK Visa Application Centre

The Trendy Office Building, 28th Floor, Sukhumvit Soi 13, Bangkok.

"You can’t travel with it after you’ve applied for a new one - but you will be able to keep your existing passport for ID purposes."

@Richard ******
wish I'd known that before! They told me it would be cancelled as soon as I processed my new application. Huge pain in the backside.

@Ellis *****************************
Not until the new one is received.

The old passport will be cancelled and cannot be used for travel though.

1. SETV give you an Admitted to stay period of 60 days, several consulates in neighbor countries put warning stamps on TV that this is the last one. 2. Try the website of the British Embassy in Bangkok. 3. No, as a foreigner you should always have a valid ID wih you. 4. See answer 2. 5. See answer 2. 6. If you find out how long it takes to get a new passport you can decide when to apply. I advice: Do not wait till the last day or last page is used. Example of to many TV:
