Hi I am in Koh Samui atm on an Australian exempt visa and wish to extend my stay. I have looked at other comments and tried to do a google search as to what I need to do exactly. I know I need to go to the immigration office and apply for this but what do I need to take with me?
Also at what point do I need to apply for this?
I have been here for a week only, is it too early to apply now?
Do I need a return flight booked also?

TLDR : Answer Summary
To extend your stay in Koh Samui on an Australian exempt visa, you need to visit the Samui immigration office located in Maenam. You can apply for the extension anytime within your stay, but some may suggest applying closer to the end of your current allowed period. It is not necessary to have a return flight booked when applying for the extension.
You will go to the Samui immigration office (at Maenam) to apply for 30 days tourism extension.
Samui accepts extension applications within the last 30 days (technically, you can apply anytime now). But, If I remember right, sometimes (not always) they tell you to come back in the last week for tourism extensions.
Here is the general information for tourism extension. But exact requirements are immigration office specific, you'd better contact Samui IO to check in advance.
