Can I extend my tourist visa in Thailand and what are my visa options upon returning from the US?

Hoping someone can give me some advice...

(1) My 30 day tourist visa extension ends on 20th October. I have to fly to the US for work, ideally on the 24th. I want to return on the 1st November to go through the Sandbox scheme again. Can I extend my tourist visa again so I can remain in Thailand until the 24th? Or do I have to fly out on the 20th?

(2) When I return, do I have to apply for a visa when I am in the US? Or can I get an automatic 30 day tourist visa on arrival?

(3) I then plan to extend my tourist visa for the standard 30 days and then do the STV. For my COE application when I am in the US, I need to have a flight booked out of Thailand. Can the date of that flight be for February or March? Or does it need to be within a month or two of me entering Thailand again?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquires about extending their tourist visa in Thailand until their flight to the US on October 24 and the options for re-entering Thailand. It was clarified that if the user has not already used their one-time 30-day tourist visa extension, they can apply for it with the necessary documents. Upon returning to Thailand, they can either apply for a visa from the US or enter on a 30-day visa exempt, but a Certificate of Entry is needed. They are also informed that the STV can only be applied for outside of Thailand.

If you have not used your 30 day extension of stay based on tourism, you can. You will need the following:

1. The applicant’s passport and a copy of:

a. The data “picture” page.

b. The most recent visa (if applicable).

c. The most recent entry stamp or extension of stay (if applicable).

d. The departure card (“TM 6”) that should be stapled in the passport.

e. The TM 30 filed at the local immigration office

2. The extension of stay application form (“TM 7”).

3. 2x passport sized (4cm by 6cm) photos.

4. 1,900 THB processing fee.

You will be given an extension of stay for another 30 days.

Overstaying is a crime, which could result in blacklisting. See

If you already used your 30 day extension of stay based on tourism, if you apply for another extension of stay, it will be rejected, and you will have 7 days to leave the country. It will have no affect on acquiring future visas, extension of stays, or entries.

Your choice. You can enter on a 30 day visa exempt [NOT a visa on arrival], OR get a 60 day tourist visa. You *WILL* need a Certificate of Entry.

>I then plan to extend my tourist visa for the standard 30 days and then do the STV

You *CAN NOT* do an STV inside Thailand, you can only get the STV outside of Thailand. Remember too, the STV is employment prohibited.

(1) My 30 day tourist visa extension ends on 20th October.

Does this mean you entered Thailand and went to the Immigration Office to get a 30 Day Extension of Stay. As this is a one time extension, you can not get one again.
