I am in Thailand (Bangkok) on a Non O Retirement Visa. Once I have the required money in a Thai bank savings account, do I have to go to the bank and get an official balance statement or anything to start the 60 day "seasoning" period? Also, can I use the account normally for everyday expenses during this time as long as the balance doesn't drop below 800,000 Baht?
Answer summary
To initiate the 2-month seasoning period for your Non-O Retirement Visa, you do not need to obtain an official bank balance statement right away; simply having the funds in your account is sufficient. However, ensure that your balance does not fall below 800,000 Baht during this time if you intend to use the account for daily expenses. When applying for an extension, you will need to provide bank statements, so it’s advisable to maintain a sufficient cushion in your account.

Funds must be instantly accessible so keep in a checking rather than a saving account (unless funds are liquid)

Yes but safer to open a daily account for the 65k monthly keep 500thb above in 800 k acc for extra charges they incur

Doc Trevor can I open 2 accounts at the same branch on the same day? I intend to just leave the 800k in one and it would be good to have one to pay for goods and link to Bolt etc.

Jeff Hoffmeister Good to hear mate I just found it easier to manage my money.

Also with the Kbank app you can use the QR scanner just like the Thais do to pay for stuff

You don't need to do anything to start the seasoning, justhaving the money in your account for 2 months is enough. Immigration will be able to see that from the bank statements you must provide when applying for the 12 month extension. Make sure you have a big enough cushion in the account if you intend to use it for everyday spending as you can't drop below 800k until 3 months after you receive the extension
