Hi all , i am applying for a dtv visa , what will I need and what is the best website to apply . I will not be working in thailand . It will be purely a holiday . Im in uk , Thank you
Answer summary
The DTV visa is designed for individuals wishing to participate in certain soft power activities such as Muay Thai or cooking courses and is not suitable for those solely looking for a holiday. If you're not planning to work, you may consider applying for a standard Tourist Visa or using a visa-exempt entry if your stay is short. The recommended application website is the official evisa platform at https://www.thaievisa.go.th/. If you are over 50 and looking for longer stays, a Non-O visa based on retirement could also be an option, requiring proof of sufficient funds.

You don’t need a visa for a 3 month trip. 60 days visa exempt stamp when yo arrive and then can extend for a further 30 days in Thailand

DTV you actually have to sign up, enroll and take part in soft power courses....muay Thai, cooking lessons, seminars. You can't just apply, get it and use it as a long stay holiday visa. You need to proof of signing up and enrolling in which ever activity suits you best. You also need the equivalent of 500,000thb in a bank for at least 3months before applying.

Can you get DTV visa if you do not want to work in Thailand or do soft activities but just want the option of long stay (up to 12 months) I have enough money in UK bank. In Thailand now, Tourist visa finishes 1 month.

If it's a holiday only, either apply for a Tourist Visa or just fly to Thailand and get Visa Exempt stamp (free entry, no visa) when you arrive.

Lee Benefit ok, so if I understand what your intentions are, and what you're asking, is this; being over 50 years old, you are at the age that you can get a Visa (Non-O based on being over 50 years old - Retirement) that will allow you to stay in the country long term, but at the moment you are not certain yet, so you want to get a visa that will allow you to stay for a reasonable time, so you can determine if it is for you. Am I correct about that? Assuming I'm correct, a "Multiple Entry Tourist Visa" (METV) might be the best option for you. It allows you to stay in Thailand for up to 60 days at a time and is valid for 6 months. Having said that, you can get a 30 day extension at the nearest Immigration Office, that will give you up to 90 days before having to exit and return to get another 60 days. I can't explain it to you how to go about it, but I've read that it is possible with correct timing of exits and re-entries into Thailand, that it's possible to get about 8 months in country with it.

Other than that Visa, the only one that might work for you, but don't take my word for it, is a Non-O (based on being over 50) obtained from a Thai Embassy or Consulate in the UK. With that option, you would need to provide proof of Funds ( £'s equivalent of 800k Thai Baht) in your UK Bank Account. That will give you 90 days in Thailand, but then you would need to apply for a one year "extension of stay" (costs 1900 Baht) to stay any longer (there's no short extensions on that Visa). If that 90 days isn't long enough and you don't want to get a one year extension, you could return to the UK and then apply for another of that same visa. Maybe you wouldn't want to have a return and get another of the same visa type.

DTV is definitely not for Holidays, so I suggest you forget about that one.

Lee Benefit ok, so as you currently have three months holidays per year and you don't have to split it up into smaller holidays, then a Non-O based on being over 50 years old would be your best option, giving you up to 90 days in Thailand.

To be honest with you, I haven't gone through the process of applying for a Visa myself as yet. Hopefully I will be sometime in the next few months. I will be going the way of a Non-O based on marriage to a Thai though. While, as I said, I haven't been through the process yet, I've read many, probably hundreds of posts related to visas over the past three years in preparation for the time I need to do it myself.

Saying that, it seems that it isn't too hard to apply for a Non-O Visa on your own, without needing to pay for the services of an Agent. The only thing that I can recall that one has to be careful about is something to do with uploading passport information. I think It's something to do with the passport information being uploaded and needing to be sure it appears in the correct format or something like that. When it comes to using the services of Agents, you have to do all the hard work, such as gathering all the documents yourself anyway. I've read many comments to the effect of it being easy to do yourself, as long as you double check everything before submitting the application. I can't help you with Agents.

Lee Benefit Assuming you have the funds, next time you intend coming to Thailand, you could do so using the Non-O based on retirement route. That gives you a 90 day entry window during which you can open a bank account (by dint of entering Thailand on a retirement visa) to deposit the 800k baht required for the subsequent 12 months retirement extension. Whether you want to deposit the funds and apply for the extension is your choice and there are other Immigration requirements for that. If you want to leave then re-enter Thailand during either the 90 day retirement visa period or the 12 months retirement extension time you can do so by purchasing either a single or multiple re-entry permit prior to leaving Thailand.

Lee Benefit You don't need a DTV to go on a holiday. Non-O is used for plans to retire.

You apply for all visas to Thailand using the evisa website

****************************

However you can't apply for a DTV for a holiday, you apply either because you want to work remotely from Thailand or because you want to follow certain soft power activities such as Muay Thai or a Cookery course
