TLDR : Answer Summary
Tourists interested in obtaining an education visa in Thailand can study various subjects ranging from the Thai language and Muay Thai to culinary arts at institutions like Cordon Bleu. While the education visa is primarily for individuals intending to pursue education, there is a wide array of subjects available to study. It's important to note that education visas are meant for genuine educational purposes, and inquiries should be made directly with educational institutions for specific programs.
i am 68. if i study muay thai, how good do i need to get? i am interested, but i definitely don’t want to get beat up. i regularly go to a gym for weight lifting and treadmill but i have arthritis.
I am 71 ,still train hard. I have a home and Thai family north of ChiangMai. I havent used the eduvisa yet but know MT is an option. At our age learning to teach or referee may be a less painful option. The sport is going to go Olympic eventually and the US doesnt have very many Thai trained teachers.

Education visa and “tourist” are mutually exclusive. If you’re here on an education visa, you’re here to get an education. The fact that tourists have historically used education visas (& that’s become more difficult due to abuse) does not change its definition.
You can find numerous things to study on an education visa. The obvious ones are Thai & Muay Thai. One can also go to university and study a plethora of subjects. Cordon Bleu has a school in Bangkok if you want to be a chef. I’m sure other schools exist as well. I know of no exhaustive “list” anywhere.

never mind. i’ll find out myself and post the answers.
any subject as long it is a registered educational institution and the classes take place at the institution. An education visa will allow you to stay until the end of your studies but you won't be allowed to work or volunteer in Thailand.
Not sure how it is for long term students. I do know that Thai Immigration checks often on the foreign students attending classes. Long term better just to get a Tourist visa.
Tourist visas are no longer a good long-term option to live here.
More and more consulates (probably the majority at this point) will no longer issue you a tourist visa if you've just come to the end of one.
Plus, even with a tourist visa, if you've been here 6 months or more on tourist visas or visa exemptions, theres a decent likelihood of being questioned on the way back in, or possibly denied entry.
As long as you attend classes (typically 3 or 4 a week, I believe), and make an effort to learn at least a little bit (which you probably should if you want to stay here long term), ed visas are fine.
