What is happening with the new online visa for those from countries who were free of visa before? I’m from Ireland and normally only had to present my passport

TLDR : Answer Summary
There is no new online visa for Irish citizens or others who previously enjoyed visa-exempt entry to Thailand. The only change is the requirement to fill out a digital arrival card (TDAC) online before entering Thailand, replacing the previous card filled out on airplanes.
Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC)

Where do people get this stuff from?

Is it bad reading comprehension or just hearing rumours from others and taking it as fact.

What new online visa ????????
Lee-Ann *******
I think you might be talking about the new digital arrival card, as of May 1st, 3 days prior to flight you need to apply online for the TDAC (Thailand digital arrival card), everyone has to apply for it when entering Thailand

When was there ever a new online visa

There is no new online visa. You're still eligible for visa exempt same as you always were. You just need to fill out the digital arrival card now instead of filling out the card on the plane. That's literally the only change.
