Hey everyone!

I would apply for a METV-Visa for 5-month stay in Thailand at the embassy in Vienna.

They want a return ticket. Is this the "final" Returnticket to Austria at the end or do I need also the tickets to other countries in advance, as it is necessary to leave Thailand every two month withbthis ticket...

Thank you......

TLDR : Answer Summary
When applying for a METV (Multiple Entry Tourist Visa) at the Thai embassy in Vienna, it's necessary to provide both a return ticket back to your home country and tickets for onward travel within the visa's validity period. The embassy generally requires proof of travel plans, which typically includes a ticket into Thailand, an outgoing ticket within the first 60 days, and another entry ticket back into Thailand to demonstrate your intent for multiple entries. While some embassies primarily focus on these tickets, it's advised to clarify your travel intentions during the application process, as they can sometimes ask for booked tickets. A cheaper option like a bus ticket to a neighboring country can be used for onward travel if exact departure dates are uncertain.

For an METV, many embassies want to see a ticket into Thailand, a ticket out within 60 days, and another ticket into Thailand. This supports your need for "multiple" entries. I've also seen reports of embassies ALSO wanting a return ticket back to your home country at the end of all that.

If you dont know the exact date you want to leave Thailand, just buy a bus ticket to Phnom Penh and just use that as onward journey

There is a misconception that IOs wish to see your return flight back to your home country when this is not the case. As long as you leave within the time permitted on the visa, all is well

On some occasions I was asked about an onward flight when I arrived on a 1 way into Thailand. I just say that I am considering extending my

days at Jomtien but havent decided if I will yet, meaning I cannot book an exit until I know when Im leaving right?

You can theoretically do the second entry into Thailand on a METV across a land border. It doesn't have to be a flight. You could however show the embassy a cheap one-way Air Asia ticket, like Hat Yai to Kuala Lumpur, out of Thailand within the first 60 days you will get stamped in. Then you return flight to Austria is of no relevance to the visa application

You get a 60 day stamp on entry on a METV, some Embassies want the in /out ticket and the next in ticket

I would say they want to see a return ticket within the six months of the visa validity. But how would you know when the validity ends, before they haven't issued the visa, as the visa validity starts on the day they issue the visa. . . . . And actually, they are not supposed to ask you for flights tickets, but only for the dates of your INTENDED flight to Thailand and you INTENDED departure from Thailand. Your "intentions" do not consist already booked tickets. But it is what it is, they want to see booked both ways tickets and you have to comply with what they ask for if you want that visa issued
