Hi! I would like ro know if it's only in Penang that they are asking for a flight ticket back home to get the tourist visa?

Also would like to know which company allow to cancel the flight. (doesn't want to take a risk with a fake ticket)

Thanks!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion highlights that more Thai consulates, including those in Penang, are requesting proof of onward travel for tourist visa applications. While Vientiane is mentioned as a possible exception, many consulates accept a bus ticket to another country as valid proof. For securing a cancellable flight, it is suggested that travelers look into major airlines offering refundable fares, typically available directly from their websites, or consult local tour companies that can temporarily hold a flight without payment.

As you are working, maybe ask your employer for the paperwork for the correct visa - a Non B

You could also walk into or call and book a flight with a local tour company. They can hold your flight for a certain amount of time and if you don't pay they release your ticket.

Most major airlines have a fully refundable full price fare that you normally have to buy directly from the airline website. It's normally much more expensive than the normal nonrefundable fare. Of course the funds have to be available on your credit card for the initial purchase.

More and more thai consulates are asking for proof of onward travel. The only one that for sure doesn't is the consulate in Vientiane.

Most consulates let you use a bus ticket to another country as proof of onward travel.

As far as which companies let you cancel a ticket, well I'd say google is your friend, sorry.

, in penang it is recommended by the agents (if you have several tourist visas in your passport already) to have a ticket to your home country but it is not a written policy at all.

I would say IF you have several tourist visas already Penang is NOT the consulate you should use.
