What are the steps to get Canadian citizenship for my Thai wife and newborn, and do I need an immigration lawyer in Thailand?

Hello everyone, not sure this is the right group for this but figured I'd give it a shot. I recently married my Thai wife. We are looking to move over to Canada in the next few months and I want to get citizenship for her and our baby on the way. Does anyone here have any recommendations for a good immigration lawyer in Thailand, preferably in Pattaya, but perhaps Bangkok as well, who we can consult with? (I know it's probably best to consult with a Canadian immigration lawyer, but they are super expensive and I wanted to see if I could find someone here in Thailand, first). Thanks!

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user seeks advice on the process of obtaining Canadian citizenship for his Thai wife and their upcoming baby. Although considering hiring a lawyer, many commenters suggest that the process is quite straightforward and can be managed without legal assistance. Suggestions include contacting the Canadian embassy for guidance and ensuring to keep proper documentation to support the spouse sponsorship application.

You can get alot of good information from the Canadian Embassy in Bangkok about the best visa and what conditions you face to take your Thai wife to Canada.

It isn't difficult. You child will automatically become canadian you just have to contact the embassy. I'm a thai and my husband is a canadian. First you will need to prove that you will be able to support her. You will have to submit application to sponsor your spouse. Once you are approved, your spouse will be able to apply for her permanent resident status. Once she becomes a permanent resident, check gov website to see how long she will have to be in Canada in order to apply for citizenship as information changes once in a while.

You will first need to show that you have enough income to support your spouse. Have your last 2 years of NOA ready you will need them.

This is the best website to get info

Your child can apply for a canadian passport but until your spouse application is finished and approved, she can obtain temporary resident visa to come to Canada. Have all of your communication between you 2, all of the photos and everything to prove that your marriage is real. They will be helpful for sponsorship application process. You don't need a lawyer. It's very straightforward. Good luck!

Very easy, just go to Canada.ca

Immigration tab.

And make SURE you follow ALL instructions to a tee.

(Don’t hurt to triple check everything, and send extra pictures. Lol

They seem to loose them easily.)

Did mine 14 years ago for my Thai wife coming to Canada.

Whole process took less then 6 months.

Not even sure. Wherever I can find a job. I'm from Montreal, and have family there. Toronto would probably be the best place to get a job. I would love to be in Vancouver...

OK, thank you. Maybe the process is easer than I've been lead to believe. But, I've had friends who married non-Canadian spouses, they got some help in their particular situations. I will look into this some more.
