TLDR : Answer Summary
A UK expat in Phuket is seeking advice on the process to extend their 60-day tourist visa. They wish to first extend it for an additional 30 days, and later transition to a 60-day COVID visa. Community responses provide a list of necessary documents for the visa extension, including copies of the passport and visa, a TM30 form, proper application forms, passport photos, and the fee.

Who are these people?

Primary tasks: check paperwork is in order for what a person is trying to do, advise people what can be done at immigration, hand out the queue numbers. answer immigration questions people may have, inform immigration officers about problems customers are having, inform customers about changes in requirements/procedures. Really, an invaluable service. Collectively they speak 9 languages: Thai, English, German, Dutch, Flemish, French, Spanish, Italian, Chinese.

I guess some offices don't have immigration volunteers, but as long as I've been using Phuket Immigration Office (8 years) they've been there. Very helpful in person as well as the website they've put together. A little about what they do:

And these people are actually INSIDE the immigration office, and embedded with the regular government immigration officers?

The nearest equivalent I can think of are Tourist Police Volunteers, which we have in Phuket but maybe not other provinces.

Phuket Immigration Volunteers wear white uniforms with immigration volunteer insignia. They sit at desks in the various rooms at the Immigration Office. If you are a short-term visitor you see them first and they get you headed in the right direction with the right paperwork. (If you're a long-term visitor - like marriage and retirement extensions - you don't have as much interaction with them, especially for annual extensions.) For example, if I want a Certificate of Residence, I would take my paperwork to their desk at the Immigration Office, they would ask what I wanted, check my paperwork, tell me if I were missing anything, have forms if I were missing one, etc., and then when your paperwork is correct (in the form the immigration officers want to see) they give you a queue ticket for the proper desk that does what you want.

By the time a customer gets a queue ticket there are usually not any obvious problems with the applications as they've basically been pre-screened. All this without taking time away from the work that the immigration officers do. They are always there. If they weren't things would work much differently at the office. They are especially nice for people who have never visited the immigration office before.

Unless extended, the covid extension will be a thing of the past when your 30 days are up.

You might be better off asking in a local group on what they need exactly, but all require the following for the 30 day extension of stay based on tourism:

1. Your passport and:

a. a copy of your data ("picture") page

b. a copy of your most recent visa (if you have one)

c. a copy of your most recent stamp

d. a copy of your departure card

2. A TM30, filed in the immigration office [almost at all immigration offices).

3. The extension of stay request form that you can find at the local immigration office

4. 2x passport pictures

5. 1,900 THB.

@Benjamin *****
thanks! With the TM30 is that something I complete at immigration or before hand?

@Elliot ******
The TM30 is filed by the property owner or the hotel no later then 24 business hours after you start staying at the place. If you're staying at a hotel, ask the hotel for a screenshot of the TM30.
