Can I travel to Laos by land and enter Thailand by air for my visa application?

Good evening.

We've already done two border bounces via (Thailand-Laos-Thailand)

But soon we have to go to Laos again for our visa application in the Thai Embassy.

Is it possible to travel to Laos again by land and enter Thailand by air? Or vice versa?

Or do we only have one option this time -- travel by air Thailand-Laos-Thailand?

Thank you πŸ™

TLDR : Answer Summary
You can travel to Laos by land and enter Thailand by air or vice versa for your visa application. The twice-per-year limitation applies only to visa exempt entries; if you have a visa, this restriction does not affect your travel method.

You can exit by land or air. You can enter with a VISA by land or air.

would you mind if I ask how about entering Laos? We entered Laos with visa exempt twice already during our boder bounces. . Does Laos have limit for entering by land with visa exempt? We need to go there to apply for our visa.

i dont know about visa exempt for Laos or if there is a limit. You can always apply for a visa on arrival if your passport allows it

How you leave Thailand doesn't matter.

The limit to entering 2 times per year is ONLY for visa exempt entries. If you have a visa then that limit is not applicable

aren't we going to have any problems with Lao immigration if we enter by land for the 3rd time?

No the restrictions are regarding visa exemption and even if you have an excessive travel history and been denied at an airport with a tourist visa, you’ll most certainly will manage to enter by land with a valid tourist visa anyway. (Unless you use the Poipet border).

yes, we are on visa exempt, did border bounces using Thai-Lao-Thai border twice already and most probably will have to use the extension for our second border bounce that we last did (I am sorry I forgot to include this info) πŸ™

So in this case, after 2 border bounces (visa exempt for both Thailand and Laos bec of Philippine passports), we can only enter Laos by air, and can enter thailand by land after getting our new Thai visa? πŸ™

Ok, you can’t do another border run by road to get a third visa exemption now, but you can leave by road/air and enter on a third visa exemption by air OR do a visa run to the embassy in Vientiane or the consulate in Savannakhet, get a tourist visa and enter by road OR air.

Be aware of that both require online appointment now and I know people have been struggling with getting a suitable appointment.

In Laos you’ll get another visa on arrival.

Don’t know if there’s any restrictions regarding 30 days visa exemption for Philippine and Thai citizens entering Lao, but you could apply for a tourist visa first. I guess you haven’t spent long time in total inside Laos on your border runs so my guess is that you’ll be fine, but can’t guarantee anything. Fee is $50
