Question about Guardian of Half-Thai Child Financial monthly method: I was trying to do the monthly method of funds for the guardian visa, but unfortunately Transferwise (Wise) no longer is sending money listed as "International Transfer" - it shows it as a domestic transfer. So, do the funds for monthly method need to be from international transfer? And what is the amount per month? Thanks!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The monthly income method for the Guardian visa concerning a half-Thai child requires a minimum income of 40,000 THB per month. There are no requirements for the funds to be sent internationally; they can originate as domestic transfers. Each immigration office may have different policies, so it is advisable to check with the local immigration office for specific requirements.

I am shutting this down, for now.

1. Each immigration office have slightly different policies for the documents required for a one year extension of stay based on raising half-Thai children.

2. In NONE of the police orders, I found NO requirements for using the monthly income method to require the money to be flagged as coming from aboard. I do NOT know if using the income method is even possible for a One Year Extension of Stay Based on Raising Half-Thai Children. ASK the immigration office.

3. Wise (formerly TransferWise) is simply ONE tool used to transfer money to Thailand. Other tools exist that allow a person to transfer money as well. Specific questions about HOW Wise works should either be asked at Wise, OR on a Wise related Facebook group.

4. From a comment I deleted from the OP (because it was nestled in a thread that I deleted),

“Paul Andrew

Benjamin Hays I got my question answered. There is no official regulation in the police order but I need to check that my local IO does not have a “discretionary” requirement”

I see no reason to keep this post open

ASK the immigration office if a one year extension of stay based on raising half-Thai children is possible using the monthly income method, and if so, what the specific requirements are.

Thank you.

IMPORTANT REMINDER: Each immigration office has their own rules. The OP is using Phetchaburi, not Ratchaburi, not Kanchaburi, not Nakhon Nowhere. Information about Ratchaburi, Kanchanburi, and Nakhom Nowhere has absolutely no influence on the OP's immigration office, and will not help the OP answer his questions. Thank you.

I'm curious... are you trying to get a one year extension of stay based on raising half-Thai child, OR are you trying to maintain that extension fo stay?

I'm looking at the police order to get the original Non-O visa inside Thailand, and it doesn't mention anything about overseas income, the only options are either to show the 400K THB in a bank account, OR a letter from your embassy showing 40K THB in income.

"

my country doesn’t issue the letter. USA. It is a first time extension. Does that affect the financial requirements?

@Paul *******
Keep in mind that even for the first yearly extension IF you're using monthly transfers MANY offices require a full 12 months of the 40K baht a month being transferred in. They aren't gonna do it with just a couple months of transfers from abroad. I know more people than I can count who were denied their first yearly extension because they didn't have 12 months of previous monthly transfers for the minimum. Most offices require you use banked money method for that first year and then you can switch over to the monthly income ...

What immigration office, and did you ask them if they accept monthly income from overseas?

I will ask. It is Phetchaburi

Please let us know what the say tomorrow. I'm seeing nothing online saying you can use the income method for this extension of stay 🙁

@Benjamin *****
I'm going to make a wild guess that he's from one of the countries whose embassy doesn't issue the income statements. Uk, US and Oz at least therefore the only option is to do the monthly transfers route
Benjamin ******
@John *********
BUT... can he do a monthly transfer route for the one year extension of stay based on raising half-Thai child?

I am NOT finding online 🙁

I found this:

"Proof of financial status either:

Letter from Embassy/Consul Certifying over THB
*****
month. (Max 6 months old),

Supporting documents of the income may be requested by the immigration officer."

. I don't think the information on that website is 100% correct though)

I KNOW a person can get a one year extension of stay based on raising half-Thai child on 40K THB a month in income though; if they have a signed contract with an employer.

Transferwise still sends transfers with International Transfer/Deposit indicated on your statement. Are you selecting the last option For Long Term Stay in Thailand?

I did receive once my Transfer indicating Domestic from a local entity in Thailand.

That was a mix up because I complained about a new partner they have called Plaid. I was in a hurry to receive the transfer so Wise triggered a Domestic money transfer.

It was weird.

this is a big issue much discussed in the transferwise Facebook group. It is not affecting Everyone. Yes naturally I select the correct purpose. But I checked my Bangkok bank statement and as has happened with many others, despite selecting the international transfer option it is now listed as domestic. This will affect a lot of people.

For an extension of stay based on raising a half-Thai child, there is no requirements the money must be sent internationally. You only need 40K THB a month in income.

Nonthaburi Immigration wanted to see a copy of my Social Security annual statement for current year monthly payments.
Benjamin ******
@Scott **********
how do you know this? Is this what they verbally told you, OR do you have it in writing?
Scott ***********
@Benjamin *****
this is the way I have done my visa / extension for the past 3 years... but I’ve not asked for it in writing why should I? This is what they told me so this is what they get.
Benjamin ******
@Scott **********
you should ask for it in writing because that requirement is nowhere on the police order that I was reading last night.

If an immigration officer wants to make new rules verbally, and you want to obey it without question, so it be. BUT that is not the rules you, or anyone else, actually need to follow.

@Benjamin *****
to be honest I have no problem with this cos my income does come from overseas that’s why I have never asked or queried it. But good to know for future reference.

Better to check your local immigration office if they accept monthly income from inside Thailand without proof that showing income is legal in Thailand. (even police order doesn't say, if they accept or not is a different topic)

When you apply for an in-country Non-O visa based on marriage to a Thai using the monthly income method, you need those tax-related documents (usually from your employer if you are working) and a work permit showing income is one you gain legally inside Thailand.

I'm not so sure If this is not applied for 1 year extension.
