Please advise which health insurance companies provide the most affordable rates for a 77 year old man needing to meet O-A retirement visa
Answer summary
Finding affordable health insurance for a 77-year-old man applying for an O-A retirement visa in Thailand can be quite challenging. Various commenters suggest companies like AXA and WRLife for potentially affordable options, but stress that many insurers have age limits or high costs due to the applicant's age. Some recommend self-insuring or going the Non-O route instead of the O-A visa, which has fewer requirements regarding health insurance. It's noted that many insurance policies often have exclusions for pre-existing conditions and that the overall quality of insurance often diminishes for older applicants. It's advisable to consult with an insurance broker for guidance.

You will not like this but I don't think you will find anything at your age that is affordable. especially if you have any pre-existing conditions. there are other ways.

I'll insure you for 100 baht. I won't be there when you need it but I'm affordable. Or would you like to reframe your question and ask about quality insurance.

I am 77, quite healthy, no health insurance. Have non-o so do not need ins. Use gov't hospital if needed. A lot of doctors at gov. hospitals also work at private expensive hospitals. I have funds set aside in case of health issue

I have a friend in the same position and do not think you will be able to obtain health insurance. She just self insures herself. I can’t see Thailand throwing out all these older retirees. Five years ago they threatened the same and it never happened.

Scott Blair the non -OA requires an insurance from their ist if companies to say for it. The Non-O doesn't. And is applied for before arriving using proof of funds in non Thai account.

AXA is the most affordable but they are extremely slow to respond and not great to deal with. We ended up going with Falcon. More expensive but much better customer service. Pacific Cross was the most expensive option.

Most insurance companies have a 75-year old cut-off for first time enrollees, including Pacific Cross, which was recommended by someone here.

Stephane Handshin You’re right. Thanks for the clarification.

Pacific Cross is one of the few quality companies that will issue a Thai health insurance policy to someone your age. Note that you must be in perfect health and it is renewable until you are 99. Get it through a good insurance broker. There are plenty of lousy companies offering policies but good luck filing a claim.

Sturgess Spanos this is very real information. PX sets it both ways. Your preX and every condition anyone else has ever had. May or may not be helpful in catastrophic accidents. Not much more. If you can go the Non-O route not OA. Plan to self insure. Good luck

With Pacific Cross pay close attention to the “general exclusions” which apply to everyone not just your specific exclusions. They are listed in a separate area. For example, at 77 you will not be covered for a

ANY prostate problems even if you have never had a problem. Your age alone excludes you from coverage.

Danny Dukes 😂 exactly.

40 years I worked in medical field as a registered nurse. I don't have anything nice to say about insurance companies.

At 77 any is going to be expensive and not cover much. Best to go the Non-O route instead.

Danny Dukes if you have heath problems and its free in your own country then commute because at 77 no insurance company is going to touch you unless you can fund yourself

Is there any specific reason you're wanting a non-OA visa? A non-O visa doesn't have most of the requirements of the non-OA.
Stephane **********
Stephane **********
@Brandon ***********
- but the non-O requires a deposit of 800,000 bahts in a Thai bank account.
Brandon ************

@Stephane *********
but so does a non-OA if you plan on staying in Thailand.

So if the plan is to remain in Thailand, the non-O is always better because they both have the same requirements to apply for an extension, except the non-OA requires you to maintain specific insurance from Thai companies forever.

Greg Alexander true, in Hungary government pays until your death, but poor service usually. In Thailand WRLife do it IMO.

if you're planning on going home every 2 years, yes, you can do that.

But if I was 77 years old, I wouldn't want to plan around spending 20-40 hours on planes every 2 years.

@Brandon ***********
you can use the NON-OA for 2 years and then make a new one, no extension.
