TLDR : Answer Summary
To qualify for a retirement visa extension in Thailand using the 800,000 Baht method, you must maintain the money in your Thai bank account for at least 2 months before applying for the extension and for 3 months after it's granted, ensuring the balance does not drop below 400,000 Baht throughout the year. For the monthly income affidavit method, the minimum income requirement remains at 65,000 Baht, which needs to be proven as foreign origin, either via an affidavit from your embassy or by transferring this amount monthly into a Thai bank account for the 12 months prior to applying.

I have had the money in a BKK bank for years but moved to SCB a few months ago I have a BKK. Statement and will get an SCB. one when needed ( February) will that give me a problem ( always above 800k)

@Mike **********
that's what I have done when I switch from a business Visa to a retirement Visa I just put the money in the bank and let it set in a time deposit despite not getting a bunch of Interest it's always there never have any problem when retirement extension time comes around. Easier than juggling money month to month and worrying about if you had it in long enough

But it also says you must keep at least 400,00 all year, I have done that, but one bank account ends and a new one begins ( on the same day well before the 2 months minimum), it's the break between one account and the new one is what I am asking about.

It must be in your bank account for 2 months before you apply.

65K each month must be provable as Foreign Origin.

Monthly income amount is still a minimum of 65K baht either by using an affidavit from your embassy (if they issue one) OR by transferring 65K baht a month into a thai bank account in your name only each month every month for the previous 12 months before you apply for your yearly extension

for the banked money method you need to have the 800K baht in a thai bank account in your name only for 2 months BEFORE you apply for your yearly extension, it needs to stay in the account for 3 months AFTER the extension is granted and then the balance can't go below 400K baht the rest of the year.

Thanks for your replies!

I have done till now the embassy effidavit, so the banked money method is new for me. Assuming it is my first time to go this way - I can only show the 2 months before the extension date. Will it work for me?

@Udi *******
do you mean you will only have the banked money (800K baht) in your account for 2 months before you apply for this extension ?
Tod *********
that will be okay because last time you were using an embassy letter stating you had monthly income SO think of this as your first yearly extension using banked money meaning you only have to hit the 2 month before you apply rule for the 800K baht (then keep it in 3 months after and not let the balance go below 400K baht for the rest of the year)
