Just seeing how possible to get a DTV visa here in UK. I read it can only be obtained from outside of Thailand . I have the requirements for this visa apart from Hospital Appointment and Dental appointment , both of which I do need, and /or a cooking Course which I would like very much ? It seems no one is willing to give appointments unless I'm actually in Thailand?
I have in the past, had retirement visas, as I'm well over 50, but as I now have to be back in Uk for a few months each year, the DTV is ideal.
Visa Exempt or Tourist visa with extension give 3 months, just need 5 or 6 months! I wouldn't want to do boarder bounce. And yes of course there's the retirement visa if DTV not possible . Many thanks

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is inquiring about the possibility of applying for a DTV visa from the UK, noting the requirement for a hospital and dental appointment, as well as a cooking course, which they find difficult to arrange without being in Thailand. Past experience with retirement visas is mentioned as they seek a longer stay without doing border runs. Community comments provide insights on DTV challenges, alternative suggestions like the retirement visa, and the importance of proving medical treatments and course participation.
I make my appointments in the hospital application. In ny case bumrungrad, which also provided all the information needed for DTV. They also offer telemedicine. You could theoretically talk to a doctor from your country before you come to the hospital for the first time. For the survival of my kidney transplant I need regular tests which I have proof on paper including the next few appointment dates
Be careful how you approach the DTV for what you are thinking. Each time you enter you run the risk of being asked to prove the medical treatments and appointments and the cooking course. They are checking and will be checking more in the future. If you use a cooking course for say 6 months then what are you doing there next year? No course no 6 month stamp. It will happen.
Kevin. Yes I agree. I think retirement with 800 k is the only long term solution. When i first arrived in Thailand in 2000 i used to be able to give my passpirt to local travel agent in Chiang Mai and go back next day and pick it up renewed visa stamp. But that was long time ago!!
Thanks to all for your comments , I will go the retiremant visa route as i have done before, it makes most sense. Its clear that the DTV visa can be confusing
thanks for your comment. I read of people doing various boader bounce with what assume is tourist visa or visa exempt. But also now seeing that the IO are becoming more aware of this and it does depend on a certain amount of luck to get allowed back. Certainly if it was the 3rd or 4th time of doing it on the same visa. I will go with retirement visa option. I would be interested in how anyone actually did get a DTV visa based on pre booked cooking course. or Medical / Dental appointments as requested on application!
If you don't want to do border bounce which is a organised and done in a day, you could pay a visit to a neighbouring country for a few days break. My friend comes for the winter and always does this, flights are not expensive.
DTV cookery classes cost more than trip for a week, plus alot of paperwork for the application
I did it for medical care they ask for a 6 month treatment plan, diagnosis , and note from thai hospital assuring that you are under their care/letter of participation
Arnold how did you mansge to get the hospital note and details sent to your country for your application outside Thailand? Did you know which hospital to apply to or know someone at the hospital?
I actually went to thailand first on a visa exemption. I got an MRI and saw multiple doctors at 2 hospitals and got evaluations. I went to both Samitivej in BKK and CM Ram in Chiang Mai.
They were able to send me all the documents via email.
For a doctor to prepare a treatment plan they need to examine you and determine what treatment you need. Cooking schools you can just sign up for, pick one that can show they have a history of successful dtv application
But if youโre firm on DTV, there are no medical or dental requirements for DTV, not sure what youโre referring to there. And you just apply through the embassy closest to you. No need to go to Thailand at all.
if youโre not sure best not to comment You can apply for DTV based on soft powers which include medical or dental appointments as well as other options
That's what was confusing me - he said he had the requirements except those items, but if that's what he's basing the Visa on, those are the requirements ๐ .
it's been done so that's why I made a comment you clown anything can be done in Thailand if you know the right people, you clearly don't !! Have a good day ๐
Even with an agent the agent completed the paperwork but you give him all the documents and they send you outside of Thailand to apply. You pay accom and travel. It must be an embassy outside of Thailand. You may be called for an interview at that embassy. So you must attend. You just don't want to admit your wrong. Why don't you say who can do it inside Thailand let everyone know so they can go there and get dtv
