Hi folks, just want to know if my wife and I get a tourist visa in Australia is it possible to change this visa to an O retirement visa in Thailand? And what are the requirements to obtain this visa? Do both of us need to get a visa or can a husband and wife use the one visa? Many thanks.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The conversation revolves around the possibility of converting a tourist visa obtained in Australia into a Non-O retirement visa in Thailand. It suggests that if a Non-O retirement visa is obtained from the consulate, the spouse can apply as a trailing spouse; however, Australian consulates may not issue these. If applying for a Non-O visa while in Thailand, both individuals must apply separately and meet the financial requirements individually.

If you were to get a non O retirement from the consulate then one could piggyback off of that for a non o trailing spouse. However I believe Aus consulates aren’t selling those, but do try.

If getting a non O in country both of you would need to apply individually and of course have “double” the monetary requirements.

Once you have o visas you can still piggyback but you will need your marriage licence translated & legalised for use in Thailand which means only 1 lot of money in the bank. Ask Thai consulate nearest you how to get it legalised as it seems every country differs
