What are the recent updates regarding the Thai SETV and visa exemption rules at the Thai consulate in Paris?

Visited the Thai consulate in Paris a couple of weeks ago and talked to a nice lady from the visa section.

Here is some feedback that some of you might find useful.

1-They have conflicting requirements on the official embassy website on conditions required to be granted a SETV. I was told that they will probably not grant one if you spent « close to 90 days or more » in the kingdom for the last 6 months.

2-If you are traveling with an airline from the gulf and hope to enter Thailand on a visa exemption, she told me there has been recent cases of passengers being denied boarding by mostly Etihad because the return flight was more than 30 days later. Some airlines don’t want to take the risk that you are denied entry.

I flew in on Kuwait airways and was indeed asked for my expected duration of stay at check in as i did not have a visa and my return date was after 84 days. (I had bought a tkt to SGN for 3 weeks after arrival to avoid any issue)

Have a great sunday everyone 🤗

TLDR : Answer Summary
A visitor to the Thai consulate in Paris shared important insights regarding tourist visa regulations. They noted conflicting information on the consulate's website regarding the issuance of a Single Entry Tourist Visa (SETV), specifically that applicants who have spent close to or more than 90 days in Thailand in the last six months may face denial. Additionally, travelers flying with Gulf airlines might be denied boarding if their return flight exceeds 30 days from entry, as airlines seek to avoid the risk of passengers being denied entry into Thailand.

1 is even written on the Paris embassy website. It says you can be denied the TV if you spent more than 90days in the last 6 months.

yeah it's strange because I showed the IO check list on the embassy website and he basically said, too bad, you need to use this checklist. Even though I only got handed it at the embassy...

Sounds typical. Changes occur at the embassy first, before it's updated on the website.

The official website of Penang? Or the general website at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs?

Found the same issue for SETV in Penang. Went onto the official Thai embassy website to check exactly what I needed. Arrive at the consulate in Penang and they hand out an entirely different checklist.

I had 83 days in the last 6 months; she said I will probably be denied the visa but advised against it anyway as I want to apply for the retirement extension in Thailand where I already transfered the 800k.

it says somewhere else you might be denied a SETV if you were in Thailand less than 90 days ago (i think in the section where you book an appointment)
