Hi everyone,

I’m getting a little confused with all the recent changes to the Thai visa rules, so I’m hoping someone here has recent experience with the DTV (Thai Soft Power) application.

I’m looking for a reputable cooking school or Muay Thai school in Bangkok that can provide the correct documentation for a DTV application and has experience with applications that have actually been approved. I’m genuinely interested in doing either cooking or Muay Thai, so both options work for me.

Has anyone recently been approved for a DTV through one of these routes? Which school did you use, how much did it cost, and how long did the full process take from signing up with the school until your DTV was approved?

For context: I’m a Dutch citizen with a valid Dutch passport. I’m currently in the Netherlands but no longer registered as a resident here, and ideally I would like to return to Thailand within 2 weeks.

Any recent first-hand experiences or recommendations would be really appreciated. Thanks! 🙏 ❤️

Just search the group by recent and it has posts in order showing what happened. Approved or not and what issues they faced.

You are unregistered there you say?

Then where do you have residence?

I thought 💭 the rule is to apply where you have a longterm residence. Regardless what national you are.

Home country is only possible if you are also registered there.

That’s how I read it at least.

If not let me know because I’m fixing longterm residence to apply so I don’t have to go to the Netherlands myself. I’m unregistered also there and Dutch.

You have to be citizen or have permanent residence.

When you are deregistered you are still citizen.

For the VOG process and legalizing it, you have to be in Netherlands anyway.

and what about the adress? You put a hotel or random adress just to apply in the Netherlands? Because unregistered means you have no adress anymore there either.

I suppose when you stay in a hotel the address of the hotel should be enough.

When you are not registered in Basisregistratie Personen it is a bit more complicated to get the Verklaring Omtrent Gedrag.

You will have to apply in the Netherlands and you will have to stay there during the whole application process. You will need a criminal record also. You will have to plan more than to weeks for the entire process

It will take much longer than two weeks to get you application together, apply, and then wait for an answer. How long does it take to get a criminal background check, which you would need as part of your application? Do you have 500K baht in a savings or checking account for at least 3 months?

Returning to Thailand within 2 weeks seems impossible. Currently you have to submit a certificate of conduct (Verklaring Omtrent het Gedrag - VOG) which can take between 1-4 weeks to receive it after requesting. Then it needs to be legalised by CDC - Ministerie van Buitenlandse Zaken (it takes 1-2 hours if you go in person, or 5-7 business days if you send it by post). After that it also needs to be legalised by the Thai embassy in Den Haag and this can take 2-5 business days (Including picking it up or waiting for the post).

We will apply from the Netherlands as well. I did some research and assume that the process after submitting all required documents can be between 10-15 business days, if the embassy doesn’t request for more documents. And there’s also a possibility that the embassy will ask you to go in person for an interview.

Are you sure the VOG also needs to be legalised by Thai embassy?

The same embassy that processes your visa application first has to legalise your VOG, you have to go to embassy in person to hand it in and then get it send back to you and then you have to scan and send it back to them?

Does it not need to be translated because it is in Dutch?

According to the website of the Royal Thai Embassy in The Hague, YES it needs to be legalised by MinBuZa and the embassy. We received the VOG 1 week after requesting it and we’re going to the Thai embassy tomorrow. Actually I also think it doesn’t make sense that the VOG needs to be legalised by the embassy before submitting it online for visa application.

Fortunately we only need to go to the embassy to submit the VOG for legalisation and they can send it back by post. 😅

(5) If you wish to have your legalized documents sent back by mail, please purchase a PostNL registered-mail barcode and bring it with your envelope to your appointment.

**It doesn’t need to be translated to English because there’s some English translation on the document at the bottom. I’ve rechecked this with the embassy.

I read that the Royal Thai Embassy in The Hague has strict requirements for DTV, so I wanna make sure our application is thoroughly prepared.

Before August 31 it was not necessary at all to proof residency.

I read another post from another Dutch, his DTV has been approved 1-2 months ago and he submitted “Uittreksel BRP” as well. From our gemeente, it only costs 10 euro extra.

I would just upload the passport again, it just should be enough because citizenship is a higher status.

For OP it is impossible to get "Uittreksel BRP" because he is not registered.

In a similar situation London Embassy already confirmed passport is sufficient proof of citizenship, but thes new rules might also lead to confusion at embassies.

Just to be sure that the embassy won’t request for more documents, according to the requirement no. 3 “Proof of permanent residence in the country where the application is submitted”.

@Hatsaya *********
Why do you need "Uittreksel BRP"?

Normally a Dutch passport should be enough proof that yoiu are a Dutch citizen and citizenship is a higher status than permanent residency.

I’m very happy that we don’t need extra time or have to pay extra money for the translation. Once we receive the legalised VOG back from the embassy, we will request for “Een uittreksel uit de Basisregistratie Personen (BRP)”. We’re planning to apply for DTV in the beginning of October.

It is not really an English translation, but when embassy confirmas it is OK that saves a lot of money, because translation would cost another 45 euro and becsuse then original and translation should be legalised that might also be double costs.

And it totally does not make any sense to let it legalize by Thai Embassy, unless this is the way they want ensure you are really in Netherlands...

The Netherlands is very very strict. From what I’ve heard is that they reject soft power. If you can apply under workarounds then that would be better
