TLDR : Answer Summary
The conversation discusses the use of a Starling Bank account by expats in Thailand, highlighting its advantages such as low fees for ATM withdrawals and favorable exchange rates. Users report that Starling charges no conversion fees and allows multiple withdrawals without extra charges. Some comments mention using the account for daily purchases, while others express the usefulness of transferring funds from UK accounts. There are also notes on the limitations such as caps on daily withdrawals.

Starling is great, however there is a daily limit for ATM withdrawals which is capped at £300 per day and only 6 withdrawals allowed per day, neither of which are an issue for me. The card works perfectly well in Thailand, and the app is simple to use.
There is a 220B ATM fee for any foreign card. This is not a banking/exchange fee just a greedy bank tax on foreign cards.

What are starlings fees ? if i have a starling account i can go in a thai bank & get a free gbp to baht transfer ?

If you’re a long time stay in Thailand and have a Thai Bank account why not just transfer X amount if money for a onetime fee into your Thai Bank and then withdrawals from ATMs are free.

I use mine all the time out here and it’s great. Good exchange rate and no issues using it at all.
I haven’t done with starling. I tend to use it as a spending card for convenience as the rate they give is sometimes better than the actual exchange rate some how. Normally I use wise to transfer money from my uk bank account to thai bank. I then use starling for general purchases and I exchange £50 notes for Thai cash too.

To those sarcastic responses. Typical in this forum. I asked a simple question because I had never heard of it before. Perhaps I should have Googled first. Just shows you how cynical the members can be.
typical trolls aha. Basically to answer your question I think starling is great. The exchange rate is awesome and it allows five withdrawals/ £300 per day!

It's great for foreign travel exchange fees, especially in Thailand but that's all I use it for. Also have Monzo and Revolut cards too.

I'm just looking for a cost effective way of putting my money from my UK account into my China Construction Bank account in mainland China so I'll only get charged 150 baht per withdrawal. (Every little helps, no one ever got rich GIVING banks money, well, apart from the bank directors🤭)
only the standard 220baht atm fees charged by the thai banks. Starling doesn't add a charge. They don't charge conversion fees either. I mainly use it to withdraw money from the counter, so I don't get charged any extra fees
they are free of banking charges however Thai ATMs make an additional charge of 220B for foreign cards. It's not a banking/exchange fee just a rip off fee.
They even charge for other Thai banks to use their ATMs, that's why you'll usually see a range of ATMs at one place.
if you do counter withdrawal inside a bank with your passport and card, you avoid the 220B ATM charge. Not all cards work for this but I understand Starling will.
