Hello, I am asking for a friend.

He has a EU passport, a valid work permit and an expired business visa.

He is on amnesty now and waiting for his business visa for the next destination (Vietnam) which may or may not come before the amnesty expires.

He is considering overstaying for up to a week, here are the questions that he asked me to put forward:

- Is the penalty 500/baht per day and nothing else?

- Overstay up to 7 days means blacklist?

- Does he have valid alternatives (going back to Europe isn't a viable option)?

Thanks.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The inquiry centers on a person with an EU passport on amnesty in Thailand, who has an expired business visa and a valid work permit. Key questions include the overstay penalty (500 baht per day), the risk of being blacklisted for a 7-day overstay, and alternative options if he cannot leave for Vietnam before the amnesty expires. Comments clarify that Vietnam has visa restrictions, and overstaying could result in arrest and blacklisting, raising concerns about the validity of being on amnesty while holding a work permit.

If he has a valid work permit...why does he think he's on amnesty...does not make sense

@Loretta ******
work permit has nothing to do with permission to stay.

If he gets caught by Police on overstay before he departs he will be arrested, detained, fined and possibly blacklisted, it has happened.

Vietnam has been closed since March, no new visas issued, or expect to be issued for the next few months, at least !!
