Hi Everyone. Newbie here. Great advice on this forum. I have a Thai wife and got the Non Imm 90day visa to enter. I’m over 50 and a condo owner in BKK.

May I ask what extension options there are apart from going thru the Marriage or Retirement Visa? (Like do a COVID 60 day extension or family visit)

And if I do extend, can I start the process for a Marriage or Retirement visa also?

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user is seeking advice about extending their Non Immigrant 90-day visa in Thailand. They are married to a Thai national, over 50, and own a condo in Bangkok. Responses indicate that the best option for extension is a Marriage visa if the individual has 400,000 THB in a Thai bank account for at least 2 months. Alternatively, a 60-day extension can be obtained based on marriage or due to COVID-19, but this may not convert to another visa type. Users also suggest the Retirement visa if the individual has 800,000 THB in a bank account and mention that an elite visa, although costly, might be an option for frequent travelers. Some caution against using agents, while others see merit in their assistance.

If you have the money, an "elite" visa is also an option (ain't cheap! But comes with perks).

If you're planning on visiting Thailand frequently in the next several years, it is actually not a bad deal. That said, I am not quite ready to get on that bus.

if you want to use a agent you can there is nothing wrong in doing that but they are out to earn a living and feed there family but one thing a agent will know is the loop holes a freind of mine in pattaya doent have 400k in the bank and has no pension to speak of but with the use of a agent just got a year long volunteer visa luck sod

Dave. Here’s what I did.

I came last February on a 30 day stamp. In March I went to Laos for two nights. I came back and a day later they closed the borders.

I then went on amnesty until September. I didn’t know that they would extend the amnesty which they did two days after the deadline (sept 26) I certainly didn’t want to go back to Canada. I felt safer here.

I didn’t listen to other people and went to an agent. I got a 90 day volunteer visa for 17k. As the 90 days was about to expire. I went to immigration myself and applied for a retirement visa. They told me that there was no problem BUT they wanted the same amount that I paid agent. Even though it was the same immigration office.

I’m retired. Since I make over 65k a month I don’t need 800k in bank account. The only thing that I had to do was go to my embassy and get a notarized letter for proof of my monthly income.

I don’t have a bank account here. There’s no need to have 400 or 800 k in an account.

The only advice I can give you is under no circumstances use an agent. Do everything on your own.

Piet de Keizer Thanks Fellas. Yes I have the 400k in bank account. Was concerned about the processing time for the 2 months maturity though. I’m in BKK, so need to start the process 15days before my current 90 day visa expires?

If you have the 400K in a Thai bank account seasoned for 2 months, I recommend getting an extension of stay based on marriage to a Thai wife. This will let you stay in Thailand for a year.

If you do not have the 400K THB in a Thai Bank account seasoned for two months, you can get a 60 day extension of stay based on marriage to a Thai wife. This will let you stay an additional 60 days, that you can use to let your money season.

If you do not have the 400K THB in a Thai bank account, you may be able to get a 60 day extension of stay based on not being able to travel due to COVID-19. There is a chance you may not be able to convert it to another type of extension, AND they are only being sold through sometime in March, if my memory serves me right.

If you have 800K THB in a Thai bank account, you can get a one year extension of stay based on retirement.

The specific requirements, and documents to submit are immigration office specific. Go to your local immigration office and ask for the handouts.

Marriage is the best you need 400k on your bank account
