Hello. This is for the half thais or parents of half Thai children with dual

Passports.

If I came in on my Aussie passport and had mine and my children’s Thai passports made here, do we still have to exit Thailand with our Aussie passport and re enter with our Thai so we don’t “overstay”,

or,

do we just stay as long as we want and when we leave next time give both passports to immigration.

Thank you
Answer summary
The question revolves around the entry and exit rules for individuals with dual citizenship, specifically Thai and Australian passports. It clarifies that if one enters Thailand on an Australian passport, they are required to exit on the same passport to avoid overstaying. Once they have obtained a Thai passport, the recommended approach is to first exit Thailand on the Australian passport and re-enter using the Thai passport. Community members share personal experiences and emphasize the importance of adhering to immigration rules to prevent complications.

Thailand and Australia do have a rule where you can enter on any passport if a dual national but you need to prove your Thai citizenship. It is hard to find info so you should contact immigration in advance: Thai citizens entering Thailand on a foreign passport | Thai Citizenship

Fly somewhere for a day or two and come back. Enter on your new Thai passport. From.that point forward you will need to always leave and enter Thailand on the Thai passport.

My Thai daughter has 3 passports. Thai, Australia, Japan.

Leaving Japan for Australia, she uses her Aus passport, no visa and return ticket questions.

Leaving Japan for Thai, she uses her Thai passport,,no visa and return ticket questions .

Returning to Japan, she uses her Japan passport, no questions.

Typically duel passport holders must use same passport to exit that they entered on.

Best leave Thailand on your Australian passport doesn't have to be Australia. Any country nearby will do. Vietnam is a good choice as you don't need a visa with a Thai passport, then re-enter on your Thai passport & all will be good.

It seems this question flew over the heads of everyone. I received my Thai citizenship in country after living here awhile. I didn't exit and come back on the US passport. You can get that waived by immigration. It caused some confusion initially at the airport as I seemingly appeared out of nowhere, and to make matters worse, I have different names in each passport. However, it eventually worked out. Now, I can be like everyone else - Thai passport in and out, favorable passport for other countries.

Carmena Sandiego can I ask how long ago this happened please? I spoke to a visa lady today and she recommended flying to Malaysia with the Aussie PP and then returning with Thai. Muay be a country with no visa so I can enter as Thai then returning as Thai

for any Dual/Multiple Citizens with Dual/Multiple Passports:

Anyone can switch among their Dual Passports via Air, but NOT at Land Borders, because, especially for Asia, Africa, Latin America, even Europe, when you Exit out of Country 1 (e.g. Thailand), then try to make Entry into Country 2 (e.g. Laos) via overland Land Borders, both countries are going to Require that BOTH the Exit + Entry Stamps of Both countries Land Borders are in the same Passport

However, if you take a flight and fly out of Country 1, then switch Passports, before Entry into Country 2 or perhaps don't even make Entry and just make a Return Transit back to Country 1, a Dual/Multiple Citizen with Dual/Multiple Passports can switch among their Passports

Had a friend from NZ entered on her NZ passport then renewed her Thai passport when here in those days you had to travel to the thai Embassy in Wellington to renew. So was more convenient to do it in Thailand sshe stayed for 4 months then when she was flying out of Bangkok they got her for Overstay on her NZ passport because That was the passport she entered On.

if your Thai Citizen Children made Entry into Thailand using their Australian Passports, then they must use their Australian Passports to Exit out of Thailand (and, for many purposes, including Thai Immigration purposes, still considered Foreigners inside Thailand using Australian Passports and still subject to Thai Immigration Fines, even if they are Thai Citizens at Birth)

There are several options available to your Dual Australian Citizen + Thai Citizen Children:

1.) the easiest and most straightforward method without any travel outside of Thailand is to obtain Thai Ancestry/Thai Descent ( เดิมคนไทย ) 1 Year Extensions of Stay at your local Thai Immigration Office; if staying in Bangkok, you can go to either the IT Square at Lak Si or Chaeng Wattana ( ตม.1 ); otherwise your relevant local Provincial Thai Immigration Office

2.) FLY out of Thailand (using the same Australian Passports they initially made entry with) and then Make Entry Again into Thailand using their Thai Passports BEFORE their initial stay EXPIRES

3.) Nowadays, your Thai Citizen Children could overstay on their Australian Passports, and, if the Full Names on Both Australian + Thai Passports are the same names (matching full names), then they will be waived overstay fines as Thai Citizens using Foreign Passports, and, also the old, Rescinded Thai Immigration Policy Penalty for Thai Citizens using Foreign Passports

the Thai Ancestry/Thai Descent ( เดิมคนไทย ) 1 Year Extension of Stay ( ขออยู่ต่อ ) has the same standard Fee of ฿1900 Baht as any other Extension of Stay at any and all local Thai Immigration Offices

I get what you mean even if it's difficult for many. I'd say the simplest thing would be to just exit on your Aussie passport once you've got your Thai ones sorted, then get the quickest flight back into Thailand and enter on your Thai one. Job's a good 'un. Leaving it up to Immigration could cause you all sorts of headaches.

My wife has an Australian and a Thai passport. When departing Australia , she uses her Australian passport ( which I believe she is legally required to do ) , and uses her Thai passport when we arrive in Thailand. This also allows me to use the Thai immigration line when we arrive.

The passport you entered on has a date stamped for when you have to leave. Doesn't matter how many passports you have, You were granted entry for a specific amount of time when you entered and you must leave by that date. You can reenter on whichever passport you choose but you'll still be given another date you need to leave by. The only legal way you can stay indefinitely is be married to a Thai, have a proper visa or extensions of stay and Permanent Residency Spouse status.

Sorry the original post mentioned coming on an Australian passport so I assumed you were Austrailian. As a Thai National you can enter on your Thai passport and stay as long as you want, but if you entered on your Austrailian passport you have to leave by the date stamped and reenter with your Thai passport
