šŸ¦ Bank Update: Just saw this when I walked into Krungsri to have them activate my mobile banking app on my new phone. As of February 9, 2024, they no longer open accounts for these types of visas:

1. Tourist

2. Free Visa

3. DTV

4. ED (except 4 years at a University and International School).

I'm so lucky my landlord helped me open an account years ago. šŸ™šŸ’³šŸ“ƒ

TLDR : Answer Summary
As of February 9, 2024, Krungsri Bank in Thailand has updated its policy and no longer opens bank accounts for holders of the following visa types: Tourist Visa, Free Visa, DTV Visa, and ED Visa (with exceptions for valid university or international school enrollment). This change has sparked conversations among expats, with various comments suggesting alternative banks, discussing branch-specific policies, and lamenting the challenges faced in opening accounts. Some banks are still accommodating DTV holders; however, customer service experiences vary widely.

Usa has 10 year tourist visa but that doesn't mean anyone can stay for 10 years I guess same with dtv

Try SCB.

A friend of mine on ED Plus got an incorrect date stamped on his passport which was then rectified by the Immigration officer.

KBank refused to open up an account for him, but SCB did it without any questions.

Even pre-DTV Krungsri were quite strict. Japanese owned so they do not want any issues here.

Branch policy, says so right on the notice

Looks like Krungsri Central Festival in Chiangmai are sick & tired of tourists asking to open bank accounts. I would change the notice to say the following: ā€œYes the fee is xxx to withdraw from this machine if you have an overseas card. No you canā€™t avoid this fee by opening a bank account, so please donā€™t hold up the queue in our branch by trying, you are only wasting our time and your ownā€. šŸ˜Š

Pay an agent then

They are doing foreigners a favor by rejecting them. Worst customer service in Thailand!

Ko Jacke Yeah...I never get why Westerners would go to the Philippines in 2025. It might have been good in 2005. But they have never made anything better after 2005. So please, don't make comparisons...It's a waste of everyone's time... Phili is for Cheap Charlies at this point. Are you one of them?

I think youā€™ve misunderstood him, his statement suggests how bad Philippines is for customer support, not the other way around, brush up on your English before insulting someone

@Uwe ***
you never lived in Philippinesā€¦to know what is terrible customer support.

Out of the 3 banks I have accounts with here they are easily the most professional. Maybe at my branch only - there were over 5000 salaries going in to it from the company I worked for including C-Suite and Directors.

But they donā€™t open for DTV. At least thatā€™s what they told me.

Beg to differ, even BKK Bank have mostly updated to reject Tourist Visa & DTV, the rest are still subjective per branch.
