Hi, looking for a bank that can open bank account on a tourist visa. I wish to open it for my father as it's a condition for retirement visa. Would Krungsri do it? Or are there specific banks and branches who would do it?

Edited: Sorry, bad english perhaps. My father will be present and open account himself.

Thanks

TLDR : Answer Summary
The ability to open a bank account in Thailand on a tourist visa is quite difficult and varies from bank to bank. While Krungsri Bank typically requires at least an O or O-A visa along with additional documentation, some branches of Bangkok Bank have been reported to allow account openings on a tourist visa, especially if the person has supporting documents like a lease agreement and a TM30 form. It's advised to try different branches, particularly those located in tourist areas or shopping malls where staff may have more experience with foreign clients. Using an agent may simplify the process, but the individual needing the account must be present to open it.

Once he's arrived on his 90 day visa, he can register with immigration his address with them, get get a letter of residency from them to take to any bank, job done, stick in his 800k baht after 3 months go back to immigration get one years retirement visa, report in every 90 days. renew each year.

Agents do it so easy for you.

Bangkok bank Silom head office Branch is typically the easiest to open one at as a tourist however you will need a letter from your country's embassy that states your address in home country and where you live in Thailand as well as referencing your passport number. The bank can give you an example of the document if you are unsure. In your case it will be your father's details ;). He will need to go in of course. Without the embassy letter its very difficult to open bank account in Thailand on tourist visa. With the letter its very easy. If you go to their head office you can ask them for their list of requirements. They should be able to show you a sample letter. Sure your embassy will probably charge a fee for the consular letter and I know there are a lot of cheap charlies out there who try to avoid this step and have got one without it but I would recommend it to save the stress and hassles of trying everywhere day.

Bangkok Bank should do it with TM30 from where he is staying and a lease or rental contract of some sort. Can be only a couple of months. They need an address.

I have given lease agreements to numerous tenants to open up an account. They do not have to be for a year. I also gave them copies of their TM30. They all opened accounts successfully in Samui without an agent.

Almost impossible without paying a middle man a chunk of money!

Krungsri will NOT do it on a tourist visa alone. Your father will need at a minimum the O or O-A visa, a Thai address with TM30 and then whatever else each individual branch asks for.

Bangkok bank the branch on soi bukhao does it without many questions. However you will need an "insurance" of several thousand baht

Same thing at Teprasit Road

Use an agent, saves so much effort also the person who needs the account opening needs to be the one opening it. Exceptional circumstances may be looked at but on a Tourist visa almost impossible. Approx 4,500 to 5,000 baht.to open an account using an agent.

$190 canadian, pay it, use the agent

Do not listen to those who say you cannot do it on tourist visa. As some others have stated, you have to try different branches but one thing that will help is if you have a condo lease. Good luck

If you mention where you are trying, someone might be able to advise a bank that will.

Try it in a branch or shopping mall, where foreigners are seen frequently. Those bank officers have more experience.

You can claim that you want to buy a property and need the account to transfer funds from abroad. A purchase contract would help to confirm that story, whereas it doesn’t need to be genuine.

A friend's mum got one a couple of months ago from Bangkok Bank. They said she needed 2 forms of id now due to a rule change.

Having no drivers license she got an id card sent from home .

Passport, 2nd form of id and a visa waiver .

this was in Pai Toobah. I don't know if it's all Bangkok banks that require 2 forms of id but my friend said they were told it was a new rule . I opened one around 9 months ago at the same branch and it was pretty straight forward. Passport, resident certificate and money done on a stv 90 day visa .

If u can get letter from hospital that the bank account will be used for medical payment purposes, there's a chance

I would doubt it if you could open an account for someone else especially on a tourist visa. He would have to be here to do it even if you are using an agent. I just opened an account and they now do a facial scan when you open an account, this was Bangkok bank

Your father will just need to try the banks. Every branch is different so just because one branch of a bank may say no the next may say yes. I would say Bangkok Bank is best but no guarantee. Also if he explains he needs it for a retirement visa that may help

You can't open an account for someone else.

It's gotten nearly impossible to open a bank account on a tourist visa. Most people use agents now.

Very difficult with a tourist visa, see an agent
